Question Which TV Show Cars Are Most Famous?

    What say you?

Which TV Show Cars Are Most Famous? Ferraris Hold Two Spots On List

    POSTED: 9:23 am EDT August 26, 2008
    UPDATED: 9:24 am EDT August 26, 2008

K.I.T.T. may be one of the more memorable cars in television history on the show "Knight Rider," but a new list finds that it was on television almost half as long as the car at the top.

According to a list on Forbes Autos, David Hasselhoff's Pontiac Trans Am with ejector seats and automatic pilot comes in eighth on a top 10 list of most famous TV show cars. The cars are ranked according to show longevity, using the number of episodes that were broadcast.

Topping the list was bright red Ferrari 308 GTS that Tom Selleck drove around Hawaii on "Magnum P.I." The use of the Ferrari may have contributed to the increase in interest of the Italian car in the 1980s.

However, "Miami Vice," ranked fifth on the list, may have helped.

The show didn't use an actual Ferrari Daytona Spyder, Forbes reported. The show's producers used a stunt car that had been created from a Corvette chassis, using body panels and hardware to mimic the Ferrari. After two seasons, Ferrari decided to capitalize on the publicity from "Miami Vice" and supplied the show with two Testarossas, a model that the automaker designed specifically to target the U.S. market.

Brothers George and Sam Barris created three of the cars on the list: The Batmobile from "Batman," the Muster Coach from "The Munsters" and the Black Beauty from "The Green Hornet."

Top 10 Most Famous TV Cars

Ferrari 308 GTS from "Magnum P.I."
General Lee from "Dukes Of Hazzard"
    Batmobile from "Batman"
    Volvo P1800 from "The Saint"
Ferrari Daytona Spyder and Ferrari Testaross from "Miami Vice"
    A-Team Van from "The A-Team"
Ford Gran Torino from "Starsky and Hutch"
    K.I.T.T. from "Knight Rider"
The Munster Coach from "The Munsters"
The Black Beauty from "The Green Hornet"

I'm more than a little surprised that the Astin Martin from Goldfinger didnt make the list at all, or any other JB car for that matter.

They must have gonne with a weird age demographic, I would have thought Squad 51 and a Kawasaki Police Motorcycle would be on the list. Very few in my age group would have a clue to what the Blackbeauty or P1500 were.

I would have thought the "Banana buggies" from the Banana Splits (Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper and Snorky) would have made the grade!
The Banana Buggies were modified Amphicat 6x6 ATV's.

PS: Maxwell Smart's Alpine Tiger should have been there!

Was told by a friend that that car was actually RED and white. They drove around the streets of the Bronx while filming and didn't want anyone confusing it with a real PD vehicle. The series was in black and white so it looked the same as a real cruiser on television...Talk about old, I was in my cellar and found the bucket issued to me at the fire accademy.

    Exclamation

General Lee is far more famous than Magnums Ferrari and should have been listed in the number one spot. (IMO)

How 'bout the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo? Or are we only talking about real cars here?

Those were also movies. The only reason I watched "Herbie:Reloaded" had nothing to do with Lindsey Lohan being 21 at the time.
I just wanted to see Jeff Gordon getting passed by a GIRL in a '68 VW Beetle. Not too different from the shootout at Daytona he had with that little girl in the Pepsi commercial a few years back.

One of the artists that drew "Speed Racer" was a big Toshiro Mifune fan and that's why the stylized "M" is on the hood.
For those that don't know because they are too young to remember real cartoons with falling anvils and malfunctioning rockets,Mifune did a lot of voice acting for cartoons, mostly Hanna-Barbera.He had a real strong baritone when speaking English.
He's also played Admiral Yammamoto in the movies "Midway" and "Tora,Tora,Tora".

I got most of you beat on this one. A buddy of mine has a 69 charger done up as the General Lee. It is a real driver, not a mint condition trailer queen. Anyways, he took it to a party last year, and I wound up driving it and him home. The thing has got some nut, lemme tell you. I did my best Bo Duke imitation pulling out of the side street onto the main road. ( a rather rural area, before those that will get their panties in a bunch, do just that) Tire smoke and a nice power slide, YEE HAW!!!! Got to relive a little of my youth.

What about Walker's (Texas Ranger) Dodge 1500 pickup. That thing would either get shot, blown up or run through a wall every episode and it just kept on chuggin without a scratch.

One of the more recent memorable cars from television for me is the Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser station wagon on "That '70s Show." How about the Family Truckster from the National Lampoons Family Vacation Movie..

Andy Griffth's patrol car comes to mind... Cooter's tow truck, along with the other cars from Duke's of Hazzard...

Then there are those particular race cars from the televised races that come to mind, like Dale Earnhardt's Black #3 Lumina, and Jeff Gordon's early Dupont #24... As well as the Castrol cars that John Force punished the drag strips with, or Big Daddy Don's rail cars...

One of my most favorite all time movie cars is the old (Ford?) car that John Candy drove in the movie "Uncle Buck."

Hey, wait... What about the cab-over truck in B.J. and the Bear? Everytime I see an old cabover with red stripes, I think about that. Wasn't it a Kenworth??
