    Default State vs. Federal/DOD firefighting

I am looking into the firefighting field of DOD or possibly a state firefighter. I have a chance to go and work at a Air Force base as a DOD employee, and there is the possibility also with working at a National Guard base which is housed with firefighter paid as state employees. Could anyone with any experience or pros vs. cons please chim in. I am really wanting to know the difference in pay benefits etc, I understand the job will be similar. Thanks for you time in advance!

Go DOD. Once you get on that gravy train....You got it made!
    Seriously, Go AFB.
I was at Edwards (Active Duty) The civies had it made. Good pay, little work.
    That is typical of DOD.
Actually, DOD and most cities pay close. Its just that the DOD wont see NEAR as much fires or ems runs. But honestly, that isnt a bad thing.
Get on, make your money and retire.

DoD was way too boring, yes it pays decent, but the best decision I evermade was going to the County. Pay is just as good, less hours, Actual fires and emergency calls.

I have noted that Maryland has had an ongoing hire list for vacancies from time to time. You still need to join the MDANG to be a state airport ff at Martin State in Balt MD.
