What's the best time to call you tomorrow. Just wanted to check with you one last time before we head your way.
They are the true heroes of the nation. They sacrificed their lives protecting the oppressed, they will always be remembered with high respect.
Ray,
Thanks for posting the members who were murdered. That is what I was trying to do on the earlier post and I guess I had too much bytes for it to take.
Hang in there Brother!
A big hug to all brothers oversea, from italy; we remember too.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Rest in peace Brothers
I am not a firefighter but a retired electrician. In Feb of 93 I was working in the north tower when the bomb exploded in the basement. It was lunch time and only three of us were on the floor. Within two minutes smoke had traveled up the elevator shafts and blew open the low rise elevator machine room doors on our floor. We garbed a flashlight a rags just before the smoke engulfed us and blindly felt along the hall walls for a stair case. Reaching the door and gasping for air I pulled on the nob only to find it being held shut from in side the stair well, someone welling "your letting the smoke in". In as calm a voice as I could manage I explained that if they did not let us in to the staircase we would die. The door opened. We pushed our way in and closed the door(which locked behind us)behind us. For a moment I thought I was safe until the same smoke started coming up the stairs. We gave out the rags we had to the woman around us, no one said a word, we just waited and hoped. It became dark with smoke and I remember looking at the handkerchief I was holding to my mouth and nose. The outside of it was covered with soot that looked like tar, I remember at that point realizing that we were probably going to die. Slowly we started moving down the stairs and after thirty minutes of slow progress and many floors lower the staircase door next to me opened and standing their was a fireman. At that point I realized that we were going to be alright.
I remember all the emergency personal forming a human coral in the lobby to funnel us to the west entrance, the glass that exploded around us as we ran from the building, and the throngs of camera's filming us from across west street. I remember that young fireman standing in the door way looking up at the ceiling.
I heard the jet go by as I unloaded a truck on 41st street and 7th ave. I was so loud it hurt my ears. A few minutes later we learned that the Trade Center was hit by a jet. I was on the phone with the New York blood bank telling them to get a truck down to our job so we could donate blood when the second plane hit.....I than realized we were under attack. We evacuated the job but instead of heading home I kept my hardhat on and headed down town. People helped me in 93 and now they needed help. I joined up with 30 other construction workers by city hall a short time after the second tower collapsed. There was a deep muffled explosion from the west, police coming out of the area covered on powder, some vomiting. Someone formed us into a column and told us to march down to Beakman to give blood but on the way their someone handed out dust masks and gloves and told us we were going in. We ended up on Church street the smoke and dust being so thick we were not able to see or breath for that matter. Cars were burning, glass fell from buildings around us as we began to circle around to the north west. Unfortunately I stepped on something and twisted my right leg at the hip and found I would no longer walk very well. I wanted to do more but I could just barley walk out of the area. Three weeks later I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia. I wished I could have done more, but as it was All those brave men and thousands of innocent people were gone. I will never forget the people that run into burning buildings. You saved us in 93 and died for us in 2001.
Stand together!
