And how are transfers handled? If you're on E1 and want to go to T2 can that happen? If so how?
officer- assists pipeman with laying out hose and hose advancement
pump operator- drives and operates pump
    pipeman- puts out the fire!!!
lead off- hooks up to plug

you may transfer after one year from the academy. you fill out the paperwork and it goes up the chain of command.

after 9 you can go to bed. no you dont have to stay up all night. we have silent watches all night. meaning no one has to sit watch.

Whats the testing process like for BCFD? Is it general knowledge or are you issued a packet to review? about how many questions are to be expected?

Does anyone know how long the hiring process is for BCFD , from the day of the written test to the first day of the academy?

    Thank you.

Sounds like a great department. What are the chances of a vet getting hired on with a good test score.

Is there any residency or veterans points added on in Baltimore, I know a lot of cities will add on 5 points to your score for residency and then 5 points for vets, assuming you qualify? Some cities also put all vets at the top of the list as long as they passed, does Baltimore follow into this category?
    Thanks for any help guys.

I was trying to figure that out myself because I was told that they no longer did that by some people. I called FD HR (410 396 3095) twice and the first time a woman didn't know what I was talking about. The second time someone else said, "I think they don't do that anymore". So who knows. I'm thinking they don't.

What kind of test is issued for the BCFD? Any idea of when the test will be given? (HR just has only told me "some time in 09")

    Thanx

DO WHAT?? You aren't riding a city bus!!

You apply like any one else does and compete to get hired. No BS hiring some dude from East ArmPit, Ark because he is a FF2 there!

Should be soon. I have a friend who just graduated from their academy a few months ago. He said the list is just about expired so they should start accepting applications over the next few months.

There is nothing on the Baltimore City web site or their Human Resourse web site that indicates anything about them taking applications for firefighter.

Applications are being accepted June 8 - June 19. They must be picked up and handed in in person. This is that latest news I've heard directly from someone on the job. I'm probably going to call HR tomorrow just to verify that it's true.

    Advantages to Baltimore:
    1. they still let you go inside although the new fire chief is probably figuring out how to change that.
    2. You see a few more fires than suburban/urban counties but not much more.
    3. nice work schedule
    thats about it.
    Disadvantages:
    1. riding ambulances in a horrible ems system
    2. lot of broken down equipment
    3. old broken down buildings
    4. horrible training, no physicals or pt program
    5. epidemic laziness, lack of knowledge among employees
    6. infighting among different job classes
    7. cheating on promotional exams
    8. serious money problems
