Default Anyone gotten reciprocity in Alaska?

Has anyone gotten reciprocity in AK for FF or PM?

I've read the state FF site and it seems fairly easy.

Medic is a whole different ballgame. I talked with someone who went through it and it was a huge pain.

I would appreciate hearing anyone else who has gone through it.

When I moved from FL to AK in 2004, I transferred both fire and medic.

It was not a pain at all.

FF was a matter of submitting forms and the training I had received from FL far exceeded what they have in place up there. Also, in remote areas, having actual fire standards training was like this amazing gift to the departments. I obtained my Fire I and II instructor while there as well and did what I could to help out the remote town I was in.

As far as your medic, you need to have National Registry for reciprocity. You also have to have a physician sponsor to obtain your medic license.

In Alaska, EMT I, II and III are all certified under the EMS Board.

Paramedics are called MICP (Mobile Intensive Care Paramedics) and they are licensed by the Medical Board with Physicians and PAs.

I had my temporary license within 30 days of applying.

The MICP link has everything you need to know. A few notarized forms, 250 dollars, statement form current and future physician sponsor, records of your education and your original National Registry pass papers, and you are good to go.

Notice several times it says DO NOT MOVE THERE OR SELL OUR HOUSE UNTIL YOU HAVE A LICENSE IN YOUR HAND...lol.

I guess a few have made that mistake.

Default Here is the problem I have....

My training records are the issue.

I completed Paramedic way back in 1980 in another state. The school and training system I went to has long been dismantled and replaced with something else. I doubt I could get the state to dig through paper records 25+ years old, even if they still exist. I wrote to AK about this and they suggested that if I can get FL to verify my training, since they did when I got FL reciprocity (in 1983) that would work. I'm not sure that's gonna happen.

Fire is a problem also. The academy I went to is no longer in business.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for your info.

Would you mind sending me a PM with your email, or turn your PM on and I'll send you mine? I have some more questions.

It is so helpful to have candid, current information.
