Question What is your favorite department? POLL

I am trying to compile an unbiased list of what department would you like to work for if you had your choice... I appreciate the input!
I'll start out with my pick

    Detroit

Throw in a second for the hell of it... If Detroit didn't hire me first I was actually hoping to work for Chicago but my # is 30##

FDNY, they have a lot of history, a lot of tradition.
    very strong brotherhood.

I would never work there though, i prefer the rurals.

    #1: Cheyenne, Wyoming
    #2: Wilmington, Vermont
    #3: Cando, North Dakota

These are all GREAT departments that are steeped in pride & tradition. All are homes of some of the bravest and hardest working firefighters in the world.

I would have a hard time deciding between:

    1. FDNY
    2. DCFD

    Default Best

I guess I'll throw my best in.....Long Beach California has the best family oriented organization around. The crews are the best there is when it comes to getting the job done...and we actually have fun doing it. The Department is alot different when I joined and more into training and drilling.....which is a very good thing.

Seriously tho.....I don't know if I'd say I have a favorite, but as for the one I respect the most......

    Detroit

I know they don't have the best reputation for being a secure, safe place to work, and I know the city is in shambles, but seriously, just hear me out on this one.

That Department, and the guys there have been doing so much with so little for so long, imagine what would happen if they got some awesome rigs, adequate staffing, awesome gear, etc.

They have an extremely tightknit group of old school traditional firefighters that some may love and some may hate.

If you look at how many fires they get in a year, per firefighter, they fight more fires than anyone else in the country in the Arson capitol of the world. The town is falling apart all around them, but they are holding their own.

Anyone hired on a Department fulltime, should really be greatful to not have as many fires as Detroit, yet have gear and equipment that is top of the line.

It really amazes me. You look at the majority of the DFD firefighters, and how humble they are about what they do, then go look at how many of the "Bow down to me, or blow me cuz' I'm a firefighter" nutjobs there are out there, both full time and volunteer, and tell me you don't respect the DFD guys. Don't get me wrong, I know the department has a couple of idiots, but I have met and spent time with far less of those types of guys on DFD, than anywhere else. It's like they DO IT more than anyone else, yet ask for the least recognition. That's cool.

If I could only be so lucky to be given the opportunity to work for a great department like the DFD someday........
