as you said luckily no one was seriously injured.
However the engineer of truck #1 is clearly at fault for running a red signal and not clearing the intersection before blowing through.

YouTube has been deleting some of the videos of this accident. Here is the latest link. If this one disappears, do a search for "St. Louis Fire Truck Crash" on the internet. Some of the St. Louis media also has it featured.

Were both trucks responding to the same call?

It sounds like it..... Here is part of a transcript from the local news.

The fire chief says this tape is just part of a lengthy investigation. He says they're talking to everyone involved about what they could hear and see before the crash. He says, "One or both of these drivers might have been looking at the fire and the heavy smoke coming off this building."

I know you have a problem with headsets, but this is simply a problem with someone not stopping at an intersection. If a cement truck had been coming from left to right you would have the same result.

Crank up the siren all you want, the cross traffic does not hear it until they are in front of you.

I think the video tells all you need to know about the story. One of the quints blew the red light. Regardless if he had a headset on, looking at the fire, or whatever...he blew the light. Even with our fancy lights and sirens, we still have to stop.

I guess you were there in the truck and know who was at fault. That is just wrong to blame someone already. Wait for the report then blame all you want. I know we both saw the same video of the crash and you can not tell 100% who is at fault. And there could have been a who list of other thing that went wrong as well. So lets be happy no one was hurt seriously and wait for the report. Then use this video of a training tool for depts. all over the country. And then the Chief of STLFD can discipline his guys that is not our job unless you are the Chief of St. Louis Fire Dept. Which I think is safe to say you are not.

    Question

What if the dept uses OPTICOM transmitters to change traffic lights and the driver running the red light was expecting it to change to green?

    Your thoughts?
