Default All Over A Political Sign

(CNN) -- A Warren Township, Ohio, man faces charges of felonious assault after authorities say he fired his rifle at two teens who were attempting to deface his McCain presidential campaign yard sign.

Police say the man's sign is the only McCain sign on a street full of Obama signs.

Kenneth Rowles, 50, pleaded not guilty to the charge Monday, according to CNN affiliate WBNS.

    Bail was set at $10,000.

Rowles told police he was sitting on his porch Saturday when a tan SUV pulled up and a black youth jumped out and ran toward his house, screaming, "This is for Obama."

He said another male was hanging out of the passenger window screaming the same thing.

Rowles said he went inside, got his rifle and fired three shots to scare the youths away, according to a Warren Township police report.

He told officers he believes that the men "were the same two that have been destroying his McCain sign."

Just hours before the shooting, Rowles called police and said that a car had stopped in front of his house and that a black male "ran up and said something about Obama," according to the report, and "damaged his sign again."

One of the youths, 17-year-old Kyree Flowers, was shot in the arm, according to a police report. He and the second youth, Patrick Wise Jr., 16, told police they were in the car attempting to leave when Rowles fired at them.

"Kyree stated that he witnessed the homeowner trying to shoot Patrick but he was having trouble chambering a round," the police report said.

The teens admitted that they had defaced the McCain sign several times, Warren Township police Lt. Don Bishop told CNN.

Rowles' is the only McCain sign on a street full of Obama signs, he said.

Bishop said the teenagers probably will not be charged -- and are unlikely to damage campaign signs again, as the incident scared them

This summer,I was driving to my niece's school to pick her up after band camp and saw the first Obama sign of the season.
When we were driving back down the street,I saw a neighborhood dog by the sign with its leg hiked up.
I just had to stop, wait for the dog to finish before going up to it and saying "Now,there's a good doggie"while petting it.
Even though I am for McCain, shooting at the vandals unless they are setting the house on fire with you in it is not a viable solution. You can spit bricks about wanting to all you want but you better take a gallon of Pepto before you burn out your stomach lining over nothing.
If they had a real candidate, they wouldn't have to resort to vandalism to defend him.

The political shape our nation is in is sad indeed. I'm not a fan of any party. I think Washington is broken and I have no clue the solution. We get so worked up about who is a 'Democrat' or 'Republican' and forget all about the roots of our great nation. I'm an American. I want whats best for our country regardless of what propaganda either political machine is producing. It's made even worse that there really isn't an impartial media source. The truth is spun on every station in favor of someone. Our country has gone mad and everyone is drinking someone's political Koolaid.

Actually, he will probably get off in Ohio too. The law used to be that a trespasser had to be in your house and that you were in imminent danger. They changed the law. I think he may be OK, they were tresspassing. You can shoot them now.

    Boy shocked by campaign sign
Thursday, October 30 (updated 7:00 am)
    By The Associated Press

CHAPEL HILL (AP) - Shawn Turschak of Chapel Hill was tired of someone stealing McCain-Palin campaign signs from his yard.

So the man with a degree in electrical engineering hooked up a third sign to a power source for an electric pet fence Monday. Turschak also put up a surveillance camera.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports that Tuesday, a 9-year-old boy with an Obama-Biden sign grabbed the McCain-Palin sign and got a jolt.

The boy's father, Andrew Noble, then showed up at the Turschak's door, upset his son had been shocked. Soon an Orange County sheriff's deputy also showed up at the Turschak's home.

Noble says his son just wanted to see how the sign was put together. Turschak says the boy intended to swap out the signs.

Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass said he doesn't plan to file charges.
A McCain sign in Chapel Hill would be like having Hezbollah sign in Tel Aviv.

txgp17, When I lived in Durham for 3 years, we didn't call it "The People's Republic of Chapel Hill" for nothing.

Your statement is quite true. So someone can commit a crime, and nothing is done, but then a person protects their property and it is all over.

Have to love the Liberal Mentality, Freedom of speech to Liberals on defends speech they agree with. You see it time and time again. Nothing will be done to the attempted larceny and larceny folks either. Chapel Hill PD is too "sensitive" to the needs of the community.

There was video of the kid pulling the sign off to make the switch. He knew what he was doing and is old enough to know not to go into other people's yards without permission.
Maybe he'll learn his lesson so no one shoots at him for something worse later on in his life.

Blame the media. About a week ago, there was a story about a guy who hung a Palin effigy - it was just good fun. Yesterday 2 guys in Kentucky were arrested for hanging an effigy of Obama. The mainstream media is misleading the American public in an effort to sway things to their liberal way of thinking. As proof I offer Obama Leads the Media Race As Well Study Finds McCain, Palin Get More Negative Press on TV News

Sadly, his father admits that he heard his son talking about replacing the sign with an Obama sign and did nothing about it. His story now is that the kid was "trying to see how it was installed."

I saw an interview with the man the other day. By sheer coincidence, within 12 hours of him unhooking the electric per the sheriff's department's orders, the sign was stolen.

I guess tampering with election signs and other people's property is no longer illegal.

Reckon so.I guess he should have told the Sheriff,"I'll take it apart myself" and then not do it.
NEVER disobey a lawful command from a commissioned officer or law enforcement official.
Incompetence is a very difficult charge to prosecute.
I'm still hoping we'll see John McCain holding an "OBAMA WINS!" headline up as high as he can Wednesday morning like Truman did in 1947.

Last week,I'd emailed the LA Times and various other news stations to ask that they release the tape of Obama at a farewell party for a former PLO spokesman before the election.I've only gotten one response from the local station in Paducah Ky that explained that the Freedom of Information Act only applies to government agencies.
That may be so but the press needs some policing as well.It would be interesting to se if he did more than dance the Full Monty when the DJ started playing "Hot Stuff" at that shindig.
Instead they are sitting on need to know information about a political candidate and see nothing wrong with it.
