Tell me you're not desperate enough to try to compare giving citizens a check from the sale natural resources (this is called a "dividend" in the private sector) to increasing taxes on one group of people to give it to another group (income redistribution). There's a HUGE difference there.

Not really. The royalty is one thing, the windfall profits tax--passed by the Alaksa legislature and signed into law by Governor Palin--is quite another. The windfall profits tax was written with an escalator clause to provide an increasing amount of tax revenue to the state as the price of oil rose.

Thus, the adult citizens of the state of Alaska received an additional $1,600--above and beyond the $2,000 royalty check every man, woman and child in Alaska receives annually. Palin boasts of that $1,600 payment in her stump speeches when she refers to money she "gave back" the the Alaskan people when they were hurting from the high cost of gas.

We are discussing two completely different sources of revenue, and the windfall profits tax fairly defines "redistribution of wealth". Thus, the incredible irony of Palin speaking snarkily about Obama's supposed plan to redistribute wealth through his tax plan when she has actually accomplished such a feat within her own state.

New Hampshire has no sales or income tax either. Your point?

All taxes are raised through corporate taxation and local property taxes - as they should be. Local taxes pay for your schools, police, DPW, EMS, fire, and community improvements.................. ...not the tit of federal government. Much more efficient means of collecting and spending money.

Then again, NH does not have any natural resources that are significant so the refund is not given. And since the people of Alask do own the land, it is theirs, not yours or mine.

You're kidding, right? Big Oil is going to do nothing but pass the tax on to it's customers, eat the extra costs and write it up as a cost of doing business, or find some way to use it as a tax deduction, whereas Joe making $250K.... no, wait, $200K per year (until the Messiah changes his mind again) does not have that opportunity. No one's wage at the Big Oil company is going to decrease, nor their livelihood or family budget, like will happen with Obama's plan.
