    Default Obama's Infomercial

I hate all infomercials, I wonder if there will be any backlash.
    ==========

Obama's prime-time ad skips over budget realities
By CALVIN WOODWARD, Associated Press Writer Calvin Woodward, Associated Press Writer Wed Oct 29, 9:18 pm ET

WASHINGTON – Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was less than upfront in his half-hour commercial Wednesday night about the costs of his programs and the crushing budget pressures he would face in office.

Obama's assertion that "I've offered spending cuts above and beyond" the expense of his promises is accepted only by his partisans. His vow to save money by "eliminating programs that don't work" masks his failure throughout the campaign to specify what those programs are — beyond the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

A sampling of what voters heard in the ad, and what he didn't tell them:

THE SPIN: "That's why my health care plan includes improving information technology, requires coverage for preventive care and pre-existing conditions and lowers health care costs for the typical family by $2,500 a year."

THE FACTS: His plan does not lower premiums by $2,500, or any set amount. Obama hopes that by spending $50 billion over five years on electronic medical records and by improving access to proven disease management programs, among other steps, consumers will end up saving money. He uses an optimistic analysis to suggest cost reductions in national health care spending could amount to the equivalent of $2,500 for a family of four. Many economists are skeptical those savings can be achieved, but even if they are, it's not a certainty that every dollar would be passed on to consumers in the form of lower premiums.

    ___

THE SPIN: "I also believe every American has a right to affordable health care."

THE FACTS: That belief should not be confused with a guarantee of health coverage for all. He makes no such promise. Obama hinted as much in the ad when he said about the problem of the uninsured: "I want to start doing something about it." He would mandate coverage for children but not adults. His program is aimed at making insurance more affordable by offering the choice of government-subsidized coverage similar to that in a plan for federal employees and other steps, including requiring larger employers to share costs of insuring workers.

    ___

THE SPIN: "I've offered spending cuts above and beyond their cost."

THE FACTS: Independent analysts say both Obama and Republican John McCain would deepen the deficit. The nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimates Obama's policy proposals would add a net $428 billion to the deficit over four years — and that analysis accepts the savings he claims from spending cuts. The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, whose other findings have been quoted approvingly by the Obama campaign, says: "Both John McCain and Barack Obama have proposed tax plans that would substantially increase the national debt over the next 10 years." The analysis goes on to say: "Neither candidate's plan would significantly increase economic growth unless offset by spending cuts or tax increases that the campaigns have not specified."

    ___

THE SPIN: "Here's what I'll do. Cut taxes for every working family making less than $200,000 a year. Give businesses a tax credit for every new employee that they hire right here in the U.S. over the next two years and eliminate tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas. Help homeowners who are making a good faith effort to pay their mortgages, by freezing foreclosures for 90 days. And just like after 9-11, we'll provide low-cost loans to help small businesses pay their workers and keep their doors open. "

THE FACTS: His proposals — the tax cuts, the low-cost loans, the $15 billion a year he promises for alternative energy, and more — cost money, and the country could be facing a record $1 trillion deficit next year. Indeed, Obama recently acknowledged — although not in his commercial — that: "The next president will have to scale back his agenda and some of his proposals."

Obama's prime-time ad skips over budget realities

That article is AP and will likely get picked up verbatim by many papers. Basically, Obama was less than truthful for a half an hour. So Obama just opened himself up to dissection by every reporter looking for something to write about and sensationalism to keep people reading. Given how the media has become critical of Obama the past couple of says, not sure this played out the way he wanted it to.

    And NOW CBS joins in

John McCain called it "Obama's first State of the Union speech".
The only trouble with it is that Obama hasn't won yet.I'm figuring there's going to be a picture of McCain holding up a copy of the New Mexico paper with the headline "Obama Wins!" just like Truman did.
Not everyone is dumb enough to believe that this is the best African American Presidential candidate ever submitted to a vote.

People are so desperate for a "change" that they'll believe anything. Both candidates in true political fashion are trying to sell the American public a bill of goods to get elected. Obamas plans, while sounding nice, have to be paid for by someone. Let's see only those over 250K, ooops he meant 200K, oh wait what he really means is 150K...pretty soon it will be right down there at 40K..the average U.S. salary. I would hope that no one is so niave as to REALLY believes that the wealthy are going to foot the bill in the end. Well just in case you are, here's the REALITY....it will be you and me. Remember it's the wealthy who Obama says he's going to tax that will put him in the White House folks...who do you think paid for his prime time advertisement last night....the same people who shelled out 30K to hear him yap for 10 minutes as a "donation" to his campaign.

At least the Republicans make no secret of their wealthy patrons, and aren't trying top bull**** peolpe about who is ultinmately on the hook for the cleanup of the mess. Oh yeah and BOTH parties equally share the blame for the mess to begin with.

Pulled this off one of the many sources I read:

What is noteworthy about this campaign is McCain's response. He just attacked Obama more, saying he is not ready to be commander in chief and his economic policies would undermine our national security. He is also making robocalls in Arizona, a state that wasn't thought to be competitive. What is so astounding about this strategy is that most Republicans worship Ronald Reagan, not so much due to his specific policies, but for the tone of his campaigns and administration. He was always talking about hope and "Morning in America," rarely attacking his opponents. McCain could easily have countered Obama's film with an upbeat message saying: "I also believe in a good future for America, but a future produced by hardworking Americans like Joe the Plumber, not by government bureaucrats." He didn't do it. Just attack, attack, attack. You can see Atwater-Rove-Schmidt writ large on McCain's whole campaign. Spend all your time tearing down your opponent, rather than saying what your plans are. The weird part of this is that before 2008, McCain was not an attack kind of guy. His most noteworthy bills in the Senate are the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform bill (which passed) and the McCain-Kennedy immigration bill (which didn't). And Russ Feingold and Ted Kennedy aren't just any old Democrats. Feingold is tied for being the most liberal member of the Senate and Kennedy has been a champion of progressive causes for decades. So McCain has a long history of being practical senator working with the other guys to get things done. Nary a word about his many accomplishments. Just attack, attack, attack. Historically, when one candidate offers hope and one offers fear, hope wins.

Pretty much sums it up. Conservatives will pick it apart the minutiae till people's eyes glaze over and Obama will be getting sworn in.

Obama has also leveled his own attacks. So what?

Another attempt by the media/press to distract from the issues raised in the ads.

I suppose if the media did their job, then perhaps the only way to raise these issues wouldn't be to spend campaign money on them.

Obama may be running less attack ads, but the media and press camp followers (and most of the entertainment industry) do it for free for him. Sarah Palin and her unfair treatment by those outlets are over the top.

A clown who has had more success in her personal life and career than you could ever dream of.

Too bad you just take what the media and your party spoon feeds you.

The liberal press reluctantly watches the semi-private audience, hoping they will be able to allot minimal coverage, if any.

The Pope asks Governor Palin to join him on a Gondola ride through the canals of Venice .

They're admiring the sights and agreeing on moral issues when, all of a sudden, the Pope's hat (zucchetto) blows off his head and out into the water.

The gondolier starts to reach for the Pontiff's cap with his pole, but this move threatens to overturn the floating craft.

Sarah waves the tour guide off, saying, 'Wait, wait. I'll take care of this. Don't worry.'

She steps off the gondola onto the surface of the water and walks out to the Pope's hat, bends over and picks it up. She walks back across the water to the gondola and steps aboard.

She hands the hat to the Pope amid stunned silence.

The next morning the topic of conversation at CBS News, NBC News, ABC News, CNN, the New York Times is:

    'Palin Can't Swim!'

So should Palin's background been off limits. Her claims shouldn't be investigated?

We should just take her and McCain's word for it that everything she says is the absolute truth without any exaggerations or being outright wrong.

There is much criticism from her about Obama's relationships with people she deems to be unamerican yet nary a word about her husband belonging to a secessionist group. Help us out here Raughammer. Is secession considered patriotic?

Or how about McCain's relationship with G. Gordon Liddy. I bet folks like George are just pleased as punch that Liddy was telling his listeners to shoot LEO's in the head when they come to get you (more paranoid ramblings) since the LEO's would be wearing body armor. Amongst many other things of questionable dialogue for a person who claims to be in a party that respects the rule of law.

How come the "liberal" media isn't covering any of those?

BECAUSE IT'S A WASTE OF TIME!! Unless you're a nutcase who dwells on the insignificant. Plus the fact that print media especially is in a death spiral and doesn't want to hasten its demise.

So wait.. people are surprised that a politician will do and say anything to get elected? Obama must be different? C'mon.
The economic plans proposed by both candidates are unworkable. You can't reduce taxes, increase services, and reduce the national debt at the same time.

The question can't be "Which candidate is better". Instead is "which one will F me over less".

The difference is the press is the one questioning Palin's background and the only one's challenging Obama or Biden's past is the McCain Campaign (and 1 anchorwoman in Florida who got lambasted for it).

And the Mayor of Wasilla isn't vying to be President; the Governor of Alaska is vying to be Vice-President.

Here is the real issue; the media has given the democrats a free pass.

Obama Leads the Media Race As Well Study Finds McCain, Palin Get More Negative Press on TV News. This is an independent non-partisan group who conducted a scientific study. Is it any wonder so many have been duped into supporting Barrack Hussein Obama. This is what the press wants.

But hey, if you thought gas and electric were expensive this year wait until they implement the carbon tax. Our prices will go through the roof and the economy will crash. As can be seen from the last year, high energy prices have a negative effect on the economy. I'm just curious as to how will balance the budget.
