    Default helmet colors

    i am just curious what color helmets different depts use. we use black for interior firefighters, yellow for probies and juniors, and then the standard red for Lts and Capts, and white for chief and assistant chief. has anybody got anything different

    I don't think it is important what colors you use as long as probationary or "non-structural" FF's are clearly identified.

    We use Yellow for structural, Orange for Proby and Red for Command + White for Chief. Some of our mutual aid depts use the same as us, others different, but all departments prominently display the word PROBATIONARY on the side of non-structural FF helmets.

    We actually all wear black helmets (traditionals), but wear different shields.

    White= Officers
    Red= Engineers
    Black= Firefighters
    Blue= Medical responders
    Yellow= Explorers.

    Another place where we may NEVER see any standardization... just like the use of different emergency light colors is not uniform throughout the USA...
