Man, all I have is a old granola bar. Works great for a door chock when my boys lose theirs but I don't think eating it is such a swift idea.
How do you keep the M&M's from melting?

There was a day when all of our gear hung/sat in our "bread truck" rescue - first come, first served. Nowadays we issue.

Of course, when I joined, the boots hung over the suction hose on the engine, and "raincoat" would better describe the coats - unlined rubber. And in the overall scheme of things, it wasn't that long ago.
Opinions my own. Standard disclaimers apply.

Insulated turnout gear pocket and an ice pack?

The heat from the boiler didn't melt the boots?

    Pretty pathetic...

Nah - our first engine was a '32 Sanford (purchased new). It had a boot rail, too...

Just got the old girl out of storage for an upcoming muster. There were a couple of the really old coats in the hose bed. Good place for them...

Were not to into the idea of sharing turn out gear either. We are fighting tooth and nail to get individual gear for everyone. Our major concers are that we have 17 sets of gear for 60 firefighters to share. Sure at any one time we only have 10-15 ff around at a time but there isnt the appropriate sizes available for them all. The gear stays laundered but we never wear it unless there is a call to keep from having to to wash it again. This effects our quality of training.

With our supervisors we will have to find it spelled out in a code that states that they have to provide individual gear or they just won't drop the money on it.

You have a problem. That quite simply an additional 43 sets of turnouts will not fix.
To treat their firefighters so shabbily is gross incompetence on the part of your administration. If what you state is correct this is only the tip of the iceberg of problems which expose you and your fellow firefighters to unnecessary mitigatable risks. Myself personally, I would rather make a deal with the devil himself rather than see one firefighter with a hole in their glove.
I wouldn't worry about the gear at this time. Fix the real problem.

Miller hit the nail on the head --- the bunker gear is just a sympton of a much bigger problem. Stop the bleeding on this , something else will pop up.
