I'm sorry if this is a really obvious question, but I haven't been able to find adequate information on the internet. I'm currently an EMT working for a private company that does both 911 and interfacilities. My goal is to become a FF/Paramedic, and I thought it would be good to see if I can get on with a fire department while I'm still an EMT to get into the fire side of it. (I don't have any fire certifications.)

I have a ton of questions and if you can just give me a few ideas or steer me in the right direction that would be great.

For example: Is it going to be a lot harder for me to get on without being a paramedic? Will having some EMS experience help? Will it be easier for me to get on a volunteer department? I'd really just like to know what to expect.
