    Default Minitor V : On/OFF duty

I have done lots of searching and reading, yet I have not found an answer to my problem.

I am programming our departments Minitor V pagers. We use one personal page and four group pages (Duty, General, EMT, HAZMAT). I would like only one of the four positions to be a Duty page. The other three positions would not open for that duty page tone set.

I was under the assumption that the enable / disable , ON/OFF duty selections could do this. Thus far I have been unsucessful in finding a working combination.

The check box for enable ON/OFF duty seems to do nothing for the position selected.

I have read the .PDF programming guide several times. I have tried several combinations to no avail. It either does not open up on tone, or opens in all switch positions.

The idea behind this is to be able to carry one pager. Select the switch position for Duty when working shift. Then select any of the other three positions for off duty and still be able to receive pages for EMT, General, or HAZMAT.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

    Give this a try:

    On the FUNCTION SWITCHES screen:

    - Set SW-A to Selective Call F1, Tone
    - Set SW-B to Selective Call F1, Tone, Enable ON/OFF Duty
    - Set SW-C to Selective Call F1, Vibrate, Enable ON/OFF Duty
    - Set SW-D to Monitor F1, Tone

    On the CHANNEL F1 screen:

    - Set only your "Duty" page to OFF
    - Set the rest of the pages (Personal, General, EMT, HAZMAT) to ON

This should get the pager to where it will alert for ALL pages in the A position. In the B and C positions, everything except the Duty page should be active. In the D position monitor mode, ALL pages including Duty will sound, since you can't use the ON/OFF DUTY function (unfortunately).

Remember that when the ON/OFF DUTY box is left unchecked next to a switch function, that means ALL pages are active for that position regardless of their ON/OFF status on the tones screen. Likewise, any switch position that has the ON/OFF DUTY box checked on that screen will look at the ON/OFF status for each page, and will ignore any set to OFF.

Once you get the hang of it, go ahead and set the function switches to whatever you need as far as Mode/Alert Type.

Trying it. My last post must not have posted. It figures we get no calls when you are trying to test configurations.

Not sure why but my posts keep disappearing.

I am testing this configuration. It figures we get low to no calls while I am testing.

Chauffer6, Thanks for the tutorial. I had the same question(s) and frustrations and with your post from above, now works perfectly.

It isn't a very intuitive programming interface. Once you know how, its fine but everyone gets confused on that part at some point. Don't feel too bad.
Even the burger-flippers at McDonald's probably have some McWackers.

No problem, glad to help. As NM says, the interface isn't very intuitive, and the terminology "ON/OFF DUTY" can be a little confusing.

It clearly wasn't designed by someone who actually had to use it.
