    Default Turnout Gear Question?????

I'll be hopefully attending the Ohio Fire Academy in the spring, and I have to provide my own turnout gear. My uncle is a firefighter, and has extra he said I could have. However, I dont know if they are up to the standards of today, what can I do to find out if they're up-to-date? Thanks a lot!

There's a manufacturer's label in both the coat and pants. It also states somewhere on that label.

This garment conforms to NFPA 1971 standard for structural firefighting apparel. ????edition. If it is legible and there are no obvious defects then it still complies to the standard to which it was manufactured.
To err is human, To forgive divine and at times I am as much of both as you will ever find

Just to add....If the gear is servicable and not older than 10 years old. Go for it.
Just someone trying to help! (And by the way....Thanks for YOUR help!)

Those OFA boys are pretty sharp. They would let you know right away. lol

They were instructors at a State Fire School burn I helped at up here and they were all cool guys and extremely knowledgable.

Have fun, stay safe, and good luck!

Also, you will probably be doing a lot of PT, training, and general skills with your PPE on ( You will become very familiar with your gear to say the least).

I would recommend using the older PPE when they make you wear your bunker gear for extended time and when you do live fire you should make sure everything is 100% ok or work out a deal to rent better PPE.
