    Default live fire/cadet

Ok so I'm a 2nd year cadet at Clark County Fire & Rescue in Battle Ground, WA and as junior and senior HS students, we get acquired structures to burn such as houses and schools, and there are 6 different departments in our county that have cadet programs and we're the only ones that get this privilege and I know a lot of people think it's "crazy" for our department to let 16 and 17 year olds to go into live fire in an acquired structures. Even though we're all trained to Firefighter 1 level. So what do you think?

You lucked out to be able to get that opportunity. If your superiors are ok with allowing you to do that and they are willing to take on the responsibility dont stress it. You have the training, enjoy the ride. dylan

How old do you have to be in your dept before you are a full ff? AT my old vol. dept you only had to be 17, as long as you have ff1 and the dept adheres to legal guidlines now in place for live burns, you should be golden. You are fortunate alot of places dont have your good fortune.
Garbage men dont get excited when they turn the corner and see a pile of garbage awaiting them. Nor should we get excited to see a house on fire. Its our job, remember your training and keep your cool.

I'm happy for you and if I were your age, I would envy you. However don't be too surprised if that doesn't last. I'd be willing to bet there are laws on the books that disallow this and you guys just don't know it.
Even the burger-flippers at McDonald's probably have some McWackers.
