Management is making sure things are done right. Leadership is doing the right thing. The fire service needs alot more leaders and a lot less managers.

"Everyone goes home" is the mantra for the pussification of the modern, American fire service.

Comments made are my own. They do not represent the official position or opinion of the Fire Department or the City for which I am employed. In fact, they are normally exactly the opposite.

Had a salad bowl for a year and just got a leather....nothing beats it. More comfortable and it looks a whole lot better.

    Default Dead cow baby!

I've worn several salad bowls over the years, but once I switched to leather, I never considered anything but. I'm on my 2nd New Yorker.

I've got both. I don't care. So long as they both protect my thick skull, I'm happy. I don't think the leather is worth the money even though they look better. I can't believe I'm posting on this...

Leather, simply stated tradition. Plus it was a gift from my family.

    Default Reality

I wear leather...it's too heavy and gives the same protection. So, plastic for realities sake, leather for tradition.

When we are spending the taxpayers dollars, we purchase "plastic", as it's hard to justify the almost double-the-price price difference if they both are completely NFPA compliant. However, I (and both of my sons) wear LEATHER!

Buy a traditional look "plastic" helmet. More bang for your buck in my opinion. Cheaper and every bit as safe.

I wear plastic, 1010's and I like them alot. I have tried leather and will get one in the next two years. We'll see after that.

So how does this help fight the fire and mitigate the incident... thought I'd ask seeing how it is in the TACTICS forum.

Whatever they give me... currently a 1010.

    I've worn both styles.

First helmet was a Cairns 660c. Then a Ben 2 Plus. Then I bought a 1010 and really liked that helmet but found a great deal on a Phenix TL2 and snatched that up. Simply put, I love it. I hope to never have to wear another helmet again.

P.S.- I also own a Cairns HP3 commando for rope rescue, etc.

Now that I think about it, I need to get some pictures of my angus beef lid.
