I just applied for a term position at Fort Monmouth. I have FF1 and 2, HAZMAT OPS, and EMT all Jersey certs. Just wondering what people would think my chances are. Also if anyone has any info about working there that would be great too. Thanks.

Do Jersey certs convert into IFSAC/ProBoard (read: DoD) certs? If so I would say you have a decent chance, as long as you filled out your application paperwork correctly. TERM is a good stepping stone into the DoD Fire Service. I entered as a temp, went to term, and the converted to career.
Good Luck."Loyalty Above all Else. Except Honor."

You do know Fort Monmouth is being closed down in 2 years....right?
The Fort is being moved to Md. as part of the BRAC.
The Fort Monmouth Department will be disbanded, their not sure what is going to happen to the equipment."This thread is being closed as it is off-topic and not related to the fire industry." - Isn't that what the Off Duty forum was for?

Thats why he's getting hired as a "term" employee. The job announcement probably has an addendum attached to it that says something along the lines of "employment not to exceed 3 years" or something like that.
They will close the base officially in 2 years, however, it will take much longer than that for the US Gov't to officially vacate the property and transfer it to local Gov't. Been there, done that."Loyalty Above all Else. Except Honor."

They've already started that. Problem is...the MD area is not ready for them. Good old Gov't at work...They will close the base officially in 2 years, however, it will take much longer than that for the US Gov't to officially vacate the property and transfer it to local Gov't.

I'd go in a heartbeat if it wasn't term. Plus, they have the best apparatus in the Entire DOD hands down!!!!!
Aint that right FWD???A Fire Chief has ONLY 1 JOB and that's to take care of his fireman. EVERYTHING else falls under this.

They do see a lot of work off base, I think there still on the box in Asbury park. if you can get your foot in the door take it . Work on getting all the DOD certs you can while there and use it to get a perm job at another base.
I also started as a term and converted to career after a yr and a half.

Yes, they are on AP's box (while AP skips over a few towns between them due to those towns not being paid FF's, but that's another story.)
Their "Spaz Mat wagon"
rolls to lots of surrounding communities.
Have "worked" with them at only a few calls and they seemed like a good bunch of guys."This thread is being closed as it is off-topic and not related to the fire industry." - Isn't that what the Off Duty forum was for?
