Look into Normal Fire Dept. They hire FF/Medics with no age restriction. If you don't have FFII they send you to an academy. An acquaintence of mine just graduated the academy and starts on shift tomorrow, age 42.

Knowing where you are in Illinois might help others point you in the right direction also.
If I am not mistaken I don't think Springfield has an age restriction either but I could be be wrong some one correct me if I am

Champaign FD does not have an age requirement. I'm pretty sure that Springfield does. Bloomington will hire as an "experienced firefighter" without age restriction as long as you have your FFII and EMT-P. I would find a vollie dept to associate with in the mean time and get signed up to take FFII ASAP to at least get it out of the way.
