I'd say it's about time to add an amp and speakers than have lights installed that come on when tones go off.. With ours the tones alone tied in with the amp and 12 speaker's system 8 inside and 4 outside will blow you out of the bed then add lights than cycle on and off for 10 seconds...

    No sleeping here...

I am still trying to get over some one sleeping through a tone out, i have a hard time getting an alarm clock to wake me up but I have NEVER slept through a tone out..and I doubt I ever will.......i am sure I will get yelled at for what I am about to say.....but oh well here goes.

my feelings at you are there TO HEAR THE TONE OUT it should be engraved in your brain and be automatic. I mean come on it is your job, how many times could you oversleep for a normal job and retain it?

    food for thought

You definitely need to hook up some kind of noise maker and have the lights turn on. Shouldn't be difficult and you paging equipment probably already supports it.

Seriously, w ehave a few guys that WONT get up unless you make them.
Not really a big deal, you just kick their bed ,go pee and then go on the run.
Maybe someone should kick you in the head? It would be the most productive thing yet.

Who is sitting on watch? Do you not have a ticket print out...does no one acknowledge reciept of the alarm back to the alarm office? Do you not have "still bells" or a buzzer or something? Who turns on the lights?

Sh*t happens...but entire companies not getting an alarm? Something doesn't add up and it would make me think your dept needs to upgrade the equipment.

Hell it would seem bringing back the joker to bang out the box number would be an improvement.

Sounds almost similar to the BS system the brothers in Detroit are dealing with.

As for the "termination" I sincerely hope that was toung in cheek.

You stop to take a leak in my station, you'll be left behind and have some explaining to do.

Does it take you longer because you squat?

Reading between the lines, I bet that because every house is hearing the tones regardless of whether they go or not has led someone to turn the speaker to a low volume so they don't hear the radio chatter of a run they are not making. People get accustomed to hearing the noises at night and ignore them (just look at how many people live close to a railroad and still sleep all night).
Just about any modern radio can be programmed to act like a pager. Keep it closed until a run comes in and if you're not going, close it back down so you don't have to listen to the run chatter. Setting up a switch to turn the lights on with the tone isn't too difficult, and well worth the investment. If these aren't viable options, then you should consider a house watch. After all, we are expected to respond at any time, day or night. If we have to have a house watch, then so be it, whatever it takes to fulfill the mission.

Just wondering...Do you have any friends in the real world? Because you haven't got a single one here. But hell, if you are as insincere out there as you are here why would anyone want to be your friend?

Really? I have yet, in the eight years on the job, to **** before taking a run in. We have 1 minute, 30 seconds to be on the road at night, so that pretty much precludes taking in that 2am leak.

You do realize that you're not always right, don't you?

I and just about everyone i work with takes a **** in the middle of the night.
    Why wouldnt you?
It only takes like 20 seconds...I can **** and STILL get ready as fast as i need to.
Now, if it was a confirmed fire....then id hold it.
