MFD Firefighters Injuried
Best of recovery to the firefighters injured.....
MILWAUKEE - Three Milwaukee firefighters and two others were injured while fighting an apartment fire Thursday morning.
The fire happened at a four-unit apartment building near 64th and Keefe on Milwaukee's northwest side.
People living in the building say that one of the victims, who was working on a gas tank in the basement , suffered singed hair and a burned hand when the tank went on fire. He suffered smoke inhalation.
Two firefighters tried to remove the tank.
"The gasoline was sloshing back and forth, the tank spilled out, and it erupted into a fireball," said Milwaukee Deputy Fire Chief Randall Zingler.
"Three of my firefighters were hurt. I have one that has second degree burns on his back, on both wrists, on the side of his face. His hair is burned off. I'm speculating that a lot of that was done when he was trying to extinguish the flames. He was on fire at the time."
One other person who lives in the apartment building was injured.
The damage was contained to the basement.
