I am looking for some help here.. I am going to be coming down to take the test this March and I have a few questions. First I would like to know if anyone has information on the salary other than the starting pay. I am a full-time firefighter right now and I am looking at a starting salary that is a couple thousand lower than what I am making now. I know with my current dept. the salary increases significantly after the first couple years. Anyone know what its like in Charlotte? Secondly, the dept I work for is a member of IAFF and our union is strong. I know NC is a right to work state and I am wondering how much leverage the union has in Charlotte? Any help would be apreciative!

    Google is a great thing.

I agree with ya. My current department tested 3500 for a class of 55. I got in. Never lose faith.

    Be safe.

Thumbs down Application period closed early

    From the CFD website:

"Registration for the 2009 Written Exam has CLOSED. Due to the overwhelming responses, registration for the written exam closed on February 15th."

Seems a bit odd to post a closing date and then move it up, even if there were an extraordinary high number of applicants.

I was expecting a lot more people to show up. The test wasn't bad.

    kyhunter,
It didn't look like many people because there were 2 test times sat. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. They are also giving 2 more on the
14th. They had around 3000 people sign up to take the test. Good luck to everyone who took the test this year. I thought the test was good.

I thought there might have been 2 test each day, but I wasn't sure. It doesn't matter to me how many people test. You can only do your best and hope that you rise to the top.

I also thought it was a good test, My hat is off to the Charolette Fire Department, I thought they were very organized, and did everything in a timley manner.

What did everyone think of the test? Did anyone hear any new info while at the test as far as time frame, numbers being hired or anything else while they were there?

I know the chief told our session (3/7 am) that there is a lot of people and it's gonna take a long time but was not sure if anyone actually struck up any other conversations when they were standing around.

A guy that tested with me counted 16 people per row and a total of 29 rows. Do the math and thats 464 for one session and there were 4 sessions. I don't know how accurate his estimate was. I know I counted 16 per row, in the rows around me, but I was all the way in the front. I could have varried a little in the back. I would guess that there probable was about 1800 total, but that is just a guess.

I did not believe the test was too difficult.Lol I had to really tune in on the listening and memory part becuase I was going on like 3 hrs of sleep. But I do not believe the test was too bad. Anyone know when we should start hearing back from them about our results?

Anyone by any chance hear anything yet from the written exam? Did they say when we should start getting our results back?

    Thanks.
