Since I have no idea what language is on the page about the fire I have a couple questions about it if anybody has any answer. First off, I assume they delayed attacking the fire until the power was turned off so that explains why the fire grew so big. My biggest question is why was foam used so extensively? It certainly seems like the materials involved would have been easily extinguished with water since there was no large quantity of flammable liquids nor excess amounts of Class A material for a deep seated fire. It's obvious by looking at the pictures that water availability was not an issue.

I'm sure probably nobody knows the answers but it is kind of strange.

Foam? Thats easy, many more advanced departments realize the superior firefighting capabilties of foam.

maybe the only training they get is when the call comes in. they didnt even have scba's on.

Some department still use the old school method SCBA's are not needed when we can stay out of or have limit exposure to the smoke. I have been wrote up for taking time to put on an SCBA rather than put the wet stuff on the wet stuff. This was a chief officer so again are SCBA's needed or not?

it has been read that many depts. are going to foam applications to preserve evidence and the insurance companies love the idea and are more than willing to reimburse the fire depts. for the foam as it prevents unnecessary water damage saving them money?

By the way there handling the line i would say they are using CAF's with a class a foam which because of its vastly superior knock down those who have it will use it every time for quicker knock less water runoff and no rekindle
