Looking for some info on your benefit associations, and how they work and what they assist with. Ours is not part of the union and we are looking at doing some different things with it. Would like some contact info to find out more about your association. Thank you very much for your assistance.
In my old fire department, which is all volunteer, we have a "Volunteer & Exempt Fireman's Benevolent Association" (BA). The primary reason for the existence of it is to care for firefighters, their widows and orphans. All active and life members of the "BA" are entitled to certain benefits; currently, a $5,000.00 cash benefit payable upon the death of the member to his/her designee; scholarship monies for members and spouses/children; limited monies to assist with the paying of certain hospital expenses and other minor benefits. Vesting occurs after 5 years of active service. Additionally, there are numerous social functions for members and their families.Quote:

The relief association pays for the brunch after our annual Firefighter Memorial Sunday services, a death benefit of $5300 to the survivors of the member and also gives out an annual college scholarship.
Ours is done through the union but my brothers is done through their benevolent. They pay X amount per month out of their pay checks and the benevolent owns the soda/snack machines in all the stations. We were looking into something similar but ran into issues with the new tax laws, unfortunately I can't tell you what they are but I will inquire.
Ours is part of our union. You make a monthly contribution, ours is somewhere around $30. The union is updating the wording on exactly what the benefit covers. When they get it sent out I'll post it here for you. Ours has been in effect since 1941. Seems to work well and generates some money.
Ours is $50 to join when you get hired. Then $5 each time a member dies. The CASH is deliverd to his widow / her widower on the day or day after the member dies.
