Porn industry seeks federal bailout
Posted: 03:00 PM ET
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Another major American industry is asking for assistance as the global financial crisis continues: Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis said Wednesday they will request that Congress allocate $5 billion for a bailout of the adult entertainment industry.
“The take here is that everyone and their mother want to be bailed out from the banks to the big three,” said Owen Moogan, spokesman for Larry Flynt. “The porn industry has been hurt by the downturn like everyone else and they are going to ask for the $5 billion. Is it the most serious thing in the world? Is it going to make the lives of Americans better if it happens? It is not for them to determine.”
Francis said in a statement that “the US government should actively support the adult industry's survival and growth, just as it feels the need to support any other industry cherished by the American people."
“We should be delivering [the request] by the end of today to our congressmen and [Secretary of the Treasury Henry] Paulson asking for this $5 billion dollar bailout,” he told CNN Wednesday.
Flynt and Francis concede the industry itself is in no financial danger — DVD sales have slipped over the past year, but Web traffic has continued to grow.
But the industry leaders said the issue is a nation in need. "People are too depressed to be sexually active," Flynt said in the statement. "This is very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such but they cannot do without sex."
"With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind. It's time for congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America. The only way they can do this is by supporting the adult industry and doing it quickly."
So far, there has been no congressional reaction to the request.

Holy crap.
Where does it end?The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of 'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened. --Norman Mattoon Thomas, 6 time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America

Hmmmm...............
Not being one to miss an opportunity, I'm requesting a Bailout fund be established to protect the interests of Forums Posters. There has been a drop in interest in publicly bashing others who fail to agree with me, so I feel a Federal Bailout of the Forums industry is in order. To protect those in congress who want to help our cause, I propose that the Bailout Funds be provided in Small Unmarked Bills, without Dye Packages, and delivered in Small Cardboard Boxes, with the delivery being made at 03:00. Delivery point will be the old Pine Tree that marks the southeast corner of my ranch here in Downtown Maryland. DO NOT ship UPS or FEDEX, there won't be anyone standing by to sign for it...........

I have noticed one little spark of brightness: the "pre-approved credit card" offers that used to plug up my mail box have evaporated. No kidding, I used to get 3-4 a week. Always at least two from Wa-Mu (whose card I already have), Juniper, and one other odd-ball. Haven't seen any of that crap in a couple of months.
Probably one of the reasons Wa-Mu $#!+ the bed. Too much easy credit, not to mention the direct-mailing costs......

You would be surprised the consideration this stuff gets...
Vancouver is preparing for the 2010 Winter Olympics, and of course our operation is right in the middle. I was at a meeting a while back and some of the casual "networking-break" discussion was about the logistics and planning.
One of the planners said of course getting the extra buses were a big public concern, but the one the public doesn't think of, is the need for extra prostitutes. Where do we find all the extra hookers and strippers required for the visitors to the games???
Needless to say, we all had a laugh. And then went home wondering...

Hmmm.. kinda puts 'bailout' in a new context! I don't believe there's been a bailout of these proportions since Kennedy was in the Oval Office.

Now,that's how we got into deficits(or as Jim Sasser D-Tn would call them "dafficits") by giving the surplus back to the taxpayers.
Who knows better how to spend money, the taxpayer who has to put in 60+ hours a week to get it or the government who can raise taxes just because they "need" it to fund programs that keep people from going to work else they lose their benefits?
The only reason I am not in the porn industry besides beside being over 40 is that male "actors" do not get paid as much as the females do.
