Must be a city thing. Up here I have NEVER heard of a fire dept charging for a accident. We only charge if there not a member and there is a fire.
But if it is legal, I will bring it up at the board meeting. Might be a new revenue source.
My department charges only if the persons involved are not city residents. We gather information and let a third party company handle billing and fees.
EMS charges typical rates of the suburban Philadelphia area.
Fire side has a "cost recovery" ordinance enacted by the municipality, which will get us reimbursed for expendable materials, such as oil dry, absorbent pads, things like that. For long term operations (brush fires, house fires, etc.) we can get reimbursed for fuel, refreshments, etc.
