There's a reason I like coffee, Guinness and dark chocolate!HERE’S SOME GOOD NEWS FOR COFFEE DRINKERS. According to a study released on Thursday, middle-aged people who drink from 3 to 5 cups of coffee daily have a lower incidence of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia in their later years.
A team of Swedish and Finnish researchers began the project twenty years ago when they began closely following 1,400 people in Finland. In 1998 their memory functions were tested when all the subjects were 65 to 79 years old. The test group was examined again last year and it was found that the coffee drinkers lowered their risk of developing dementia and Alzheimer’s by 60 to 65 per cent.
The lead researcher on the project, Miia Kivipelto said it remained unclear exactly how moderate coffee drinking helped delay or avoid the onset of dementia, but pointed out that coffee contains strong antioxidants, which are known to counter Alzheimer’s.
Some studies have also shown that coffee helps protects the nerve system, which can also protect against dementia, she said, pointing out that yet other studies show that coffee protects against diabetes, which in turn is known to be linked to Alzheimer’s.
“Going forward, researchers should try to nail down exactly what the protective elements in coffee consist in,” Kivipelto said.
It was also emphasized that moderate coffee use is key because it has been shown that heavy coffee consumption can lead to hallucinations.![]()

I have read several articles lately about this. Coffee is naturally very high in antioxidants which may be part of the reason it helps prevent Alzheimer's. That and a moderate caffeine consumption stimulates brain function. Guess that's why my brain won't work before my morning cup.

Nothing beats a good cup of Joe and a good firehouse discussion.
A "Good" fire is not measured by how big it is, but by the fact that everyone is going home safe, and that we possibly learned something new about firefighting. Member:IACOJ

My grandfather was a merchant marine.
I don't know a group that drinks more coffee, and he got alzheimers.I am now a past chief and the views, opinions, and comments are mine and mine alone. I do not speak for any department or in any official capacity. Although, they would be smart to listen to me.

So let me get this right. Coffee potentially reduces the risk of dementia, but it could give you cause for halucinations. Hmmm...... does anyone see a conflict here?

I knew that it was good for me.....I just needed some big scientist to say it o others would believe me. I am a firm believer in carrying a cup in the morning darkness to ward off evil spirits and such, plus it helps me function more politely.

Ah Ha!!...........
Here you have it, Guys. The Geezers hang out at a website just for them.......
Coffee is consumed here in reasonable amounts, reasonable meaning that my wife replaces the Coffeemaker on an annual basis because it starts wearing out.............
So, if drinking Coffee helps out with anything, I'm all for it. Catch you all later, I'm off for my appointment at the memory loss clinic, if I can remember how to get there...........
