HORSESHOE BEND, AR (KAIT) - A late Wednesday fire keeps fighters out all night but results in the total loss of the city shop/fire department building.

The building, which houses both the city shop and the fire department, was fully engulfed when fire fighters received the page at 10:14 p.m. Wednesday, according to fire department sources.

Fire Chief Mike Hilliker tells Region 8 News that he suspects the cause of the fire may be electrical, but is not certain just yet. The cause is officially still under investigation, with the county judge and Izard County Office of Emergency Management reportedly visiting the scene Thursday to ascertain.

According to the chief, the 3 fire trucks in the building were severely damaged, possibly beyond repair. "It just really puts us in a bind. We'll still be able to roll with mutual aid." adds Hilliker, referencing the impact of the fire on the Horseshoe Bend Fire Department.

10 departments from both Izard and Fulton Counties responded to the call. Chief Hilliker expressed an emotional thanks to all of those helping with the incident.
