Looking for info. on SOG policy for removal of SCBA's during overhaul. What is your policy? Do you do air monitoring, what gases are you monitoring, what limits? any other info.

Air monitoring is a must. At least oxygen and CO. I am pushing for a cyanide detector as well. I have not been able to get too much information on the lofe expectancy of the sensors though. I would like to put a cyanide sensor in our four gas meter in place of the hydrogen sulfide that we never use and have access to other ones anyhow.

This is one area my dept has been very pro-active in. We wear SCBA during suppression, overhaul, and even investigations. Our investigator's are required to wear it when practical. There is some lee-way, obviously when taking pictures and doing other things they can't be on it ALL the time, but we are making every effort to protect ourselves. I will send you a copy of our SOG, it has our monitoring limits and stuff like that.

most everyone at our dept removes scba during overhaul. right or wrong its what we do. there is no air monitoring equipment available for us at this time although we can check our CO levels with a device that looks like a pulse ox.
