States fund Firefighters, not Congress. (Unless you are a federal firefighter... sorry).

And yes, I see the connection between local - state - federal.

As long as everyone pays their taxes, I don't think firefighters will be seeing a 20% pay decrease

Times are hard and things are changing for most. When it comes time to suck it up, and make sacrifices, where do you think it will happen? Where do you think there is room for it to happen? I am hoping to be a firefighter someday, and I would be willing to do it for less than what's offered today. The pension is huge compared to my current industry that offers zero!

Get ready for change folks! We've been heading the wrong direction for many years.

LOL...Would your current job be standing on the side of the road in NYC with a sandwich board that says the world is going to end? I work for the FED and I am very very thankful for my job. I have stability when so few do. I think that a lot of people will be changing careers..More people in line to be FF's. Just means you have to be even more on your game. Everything has a flow though. You have to enjoy the good times and put your nose to the grind stone during the tough. Look at the bright side..Gas prices went down

Default its not a bailout it is an end to freedom

its all about extending federal powers, redistrubiting wealth, and limiting your right to achieve so that others dont have to do anything and somewhere in the mix they get more power! Oh and by the way before you blame yhe economy on corporate greed and the banking industry do some research on CRAs and federal requirements for non prime that were enacted under the Clinton administration.
