    Only cold water causes shrinkage.

No seriously, I have had cows for 20 years of firefighting, both slow volly and semi-busy career companies. I have never had a problem with my lid shrinking.

Have not heard of a leather shrinking, but have heard of damage caused by extremem heat. They don't really shrink, but they do lose there shape if subjected to high heat for a long enough period of time.

Having said that, the paint will crack after exposure to heat, especially the newer helmets.

I think that leather has to be totally 100% saturated to shrink and dried very quickly. I highly doubt a modern leather helmet would shrink in a tangible way.

Mine helmet has a lot of paint blistering from a real hot flashover container, but the helmet itself is fine.

Helmets of all types are known to shrink when they come into contact with white paint.

White paint reflects everything, be it light or logic. Black reflects less, but absorbs more.

Not Exactly.............. Quite often, after a careful analysis (Stress the anal part) enquiring minds have found that the Leather Lid is still the same, but the size of the head that serves as a rack to keep the lid off the Chief's shoulders, has increased.......

He knows better. He had just arrived at his Embassy gig by a month, and the wife and I asked him to be our guests at a VFD Convention here in PG County. I handled the info with the Chair, and Rick's introduction sounded like he was a visiting Canadian Fire Chief......................
