Got the email about the oral board yesterday!!

They will be scenario questions and you will have 10 minutes to prepare and 10 minutes to present your answers to all the scenarios.

Would you happen to have any info on the Oral Board on hand to post? I dont have my packet so I have nothing to look at. My oral is scheduled for the 19th. Good luck everyone!

Mine is on the 22nd as well. I noticed in the first go around last summer my oral was scheduled on the first day and now it appears to be on the last day. Anybody have any insight on what determines the date and time of your oral. Maybe it's random...just curious....

The email they sent out with your date on it has the details of the oral board. It's further down in the email. Here it is anyway for those just reading along:
FIRE RECRUIT ORAL BOARD PROCESS INFORMATION

Electronic devices, including cell phones, are not permitted at the Oral Board

The oral board portion of the Fire Recruit process is worth 30% of the total exam grade. You are not permitted to bring any materials to the oral board with you. You will be presented with written descriptions of the scenarios to be discussed. These scenarios will not require technical knowledge of fire-related work, since technical aspects of the job are learned in training.

A monitor will take you to the preparation room. You will be presented with the scenarios to review. You will have a total of 10 minutes to read and prepare responses to the scenarios. A monitor will keep track of your time. You should be sure to read over each scenario before your preparation time is up. You may take notes during the preparation period and you may refer to your notes during your oral board appearance. A copy of the scenarios will be on the table in front of you in the interview room for reference.

After the 10 minute preparation period, you will be escorted to the interview room. The oral board will be conducted by a panel of three Raters. You will have 10 minutes maximum to respond to all scenarios. A staff member will keep track of your time. It is up to you to give your best, most detailed oral response within the allotted time period. Manage your time wisely in order to effectively respond to the scenarios.

The Raters will listen to your responses and evaluate your answers. As you talk, the Raters will be taking notes. Since this is an exam process, the Raters are not permitted to engage in any discussion with you. You will be rated on the content of your response, not the length of the response. Although you will not be required to use the full time allotted to respond to each scenario, you will not be allowed to exceed the time limit.

To maintain exam security, you must turn in your notes at the conclusion of the interview. Your notes will not be reviewed by the panel or included in any scoring, but will be destroyed.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Cincinnati Firefighter. If you have any questions concerning the oral board, please call LaWanda Johnson at (513) 352-6219.
581 names on the list.... I couldn't resist counting.

Just got back from the oral board.....my nerves are still shot!! I need a bottle of something to calm myself down!!

Good luck to those who still have to go through it.

I did notice that the guy from the city department was bored cause he kept looking out of the window.... that sucks.

It says we shouldn't hear anything until the week of May 20th.

I don't know if I'd feel right putting them up here: gives others who already went through it a disadvantage.

If they change the scenarios every day then I'd be glad to post them. I will put them up here at the end of the week anyway just for future reference.

Had my oral board on thursday, I think it went well, I was only in the room for like 3 or 4 minutes explaining my answers. I dont know if that was to short, but at the same time i didnt want to bore them. I am excited to see if i advance to the next phase.

Congrats to all those who made it through!

The guy (ff) right in front of me started drifting out the window half way through mine, made me feel like crap. But I didn't show it and kept on talking.

    Scenarios:

    1) As a firefighter, what is the difference between your private life and a regular citizen's private life?

    2) You work at the busiest firehouse in the city. Vacation time is given in seniority so will have to work major holidays: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day. What are the negative and positives of working these days? And how would you handle the negatives?

    3) How have you handled situations involving youths, adults and elderly (men and women)? Also abused and abusive individuals?

*I can't remember the last one as clearly. Anyone remember what it was?

My first question was exactly the same but 2 and 3 were different. 2. You will be partnered up with a firefighter for the first six months of service. Would you rather work at a slow station with a fire fighter that has 30 years of service and is on the verge of retirement, or at a busy station with a firefighter that has less than five years of service and why? 3.The community is made up of many diverse people, what is your personal experience with dealing with alternative lifestyles or uneducated/highly educated people? (not word for word)

Wow, 3 (three) classes??? That would be awesome although the way I interpreted everything going on is the grant the city was just awarded in March was for 1 (one) class of 40. Also, to financially be able to accept the grant the city would have to apply for a waiver, without the waiver the city would not be able to accept the grant. The June timeline makes sense for the city to get the full benefit of the grant but I have not seen anything yet in reference to the waiver. This is all from searching city documents and the internet so take it for what it is worth, anyone else know anything more? Good luck to everyone still in the process.

All I have heard from a couple of the higher ups on CFD is that there will be one class of 40 that has to start by the end of june to be eligible for the grant. Seems to me there will be alot of rushing to get the rest of the process thru in time. (polygraph, behavior assessment, medical exam)

Anyone hear from the city about the next step? It said on the sheet from the oral board that we would hear something the week of May 10th.
