I recently was placed in charge of the sign in front of our firehouse. (the kind where you can change all the letters around) Anybody have any clever sayings or any ideas for me to use?

If your volunteer and rely on donations....."Thank You for the Support".
"This thread is being closed as it is off-topic and not related to the fire industry." - Isn't that what the Off Duty forum was for?

We change ours monthly, with a different fire safety message.
For example, reminders to change batteries in smoke alarms when the clocks go forward or back, smoke alarms save lives, CO detectors save lives, falling asleep while smoking, wood stove safety, cooking safety, etc. We also use seasonal messages for x-mas, halloween, new years (drinking and driving)etc.

Keep a tally of how many days it's been since having a fire/wreck/EMS call.
Obviously you're not drumming up business but it'll give a mark of how safe the community is.
Like others said, safety messages like "Stop Drop and Roll"have their place.Announce when you are visiting a local school.People may want their kids' school up there as well.

I always liked this one I saw in front of a volunteer station:
HELP WANTED.
LONG HOURS. NO PAY.

Ok................
The O.P. was made on 2/18. I asked if this was a Paid or Volunteer station, but no answer yet. The reason that I asked that question is because what you might want on the sign would be different for the two types of Stations. For one, Paid Stations wouldn't be doing Fund Raising or Recruitment, but almost all Volunteer Stations would be.Never use Force! Get a Bigger Hammer.

I would be more concerned with finding ways of keeping the station opened and staffed. There are far too many "station closed due to budget cuts" signs, with more appearing each day....
"The education of a firefighter and the continued education of a firefighter is what makes "real" firefighters. Continuous skill development is the core of progressive firefighting. We learn by doing and doing it again and again, both on the training ground and the fireground."

Yep................
Absolutely Chief. And a Sign might be a way of alerting the neighbors of what is happening with their protection. Back around '92, we had a County Executive that had a real bad attitude about Firefighters. He was hosting a Bus Tour of the County for a bunch of out of Town business executives, and we were at our wits end with trying to work with him. On his tour, Each Firehouse had all the Equipment sitting outside, Every member that could possibly be there was standing with the Equipment, and each Station had a huge "FOR SALE" sign in front. The Voters tossed him next election.........
