    Default Socks

What color socks do you wear when you are working? White is probably the most comfortable, but black might be better around the house? Are there any current NFPA standards on socks, or do you think anything would be ok. I'd hate to get killed in a fire without NFPA approved socks on and have them deny my family benefits. This is really important and I hope someone can help me.

More importantly than the color, what length do the socks have to be? Can they be 3/4 length socks, ankle socks, knee high socks? Or do they have to total encapsulating split the twig and berries apart length socks?

Also do the socks need to have reflective trim on them so that everyone can see that you are wearing the proper socks.

Do the socks of whatever deemed length need to be made of cotton, or a cotton wool blend? I would figure the cotton wool blend this way the cost of the socks is that much more and that many more people can earn greater sums of money in this time of economic hardship.

While were talking about socks, I really need to know if your socks and underwear have to match because:

    1) I can't find socks to match my Bengal striped thong anywhere.

    and

    2) If i can find "nude" colored socks does that mean I can go without underwear again (Oh gawd please say yes because these things are starting to chafe something fierce !!)

I would suggest it all depends on the department uniform sop if they have one, stating what color the socks are to be worn!

I use to wear a white sole and black upper type of sock. It was very good for the old feet!!

Most FD uniform store sells them.

Back in the 90s- The Clintons had a black and white Socks.

PS- Why the other forum members were too slow on this? What kind of Firefighters are you?

Me on duty- I wear clean white cotton socks. This is a serious consideration for wildland season.

I wear two pairs of socks, that way I have extra protection. One white pair, one black pair.

I like the ankle socks, even with my work boots. That way it leaves a nice ring where the hair gets worn off of my legs. That's style....

I grab whatever is clean and doesn't have holes in the toe and heel areas.

They also have to fit well... other than a case of swamp a**, nothing sucks more than having a "sockalanche" into your boots at a fire...

The only G string I have is on my 1970's vintage Gibson B-25 acoustic guitar.

Can you buy your own, or do you have to wear department issue socks?

What is the NFPA standard on socks?

Do they make Traditional and Leather socks, or can I wear modern style ones?
