Have tried for a couple years to replace some SCBAs that are 20 plus years old and junk. My problem may be that we do have 6 new SCBA from 2003. The other 12 are complete junk and we run short all the time. Not sure if putting down the 6 new ones are killing me? They were from a prior grant when they recieved new gear also. Should have been for more than 6 at that time but the person did not do that. Anyone willing to share a good narrative can send them my way please.
Also not sure what the calculation limits for dollars per population or years of service/calls? We live in a rural low volumn area so believe we will 'have to' get a loan and put $$$$ up front to even get past first round computers.
Any help is appreciated!!!
You can email them to gee_man83@hotmail.com
THANK YOU!

Any time you get a grant for an item, they aren't as receptive to asking for the same item again. If you're low on calls and population the 6 new are a killer since you're 50% to the NFPA minimum which is 12 packs, possibly all they're calculating you need. Current compliance is one of the more important scoresm meaning it has to be as close to or at 0%. Since they're only 5 years old they are compliant per age metrics even though they don't meet NFPA 1981-2007.
There are no strict ratios for cost-benefit calculations since they change every year based on what applicants are in the game. The more benefits had for a lower cost the better of course is the goal, but not the first worry in the assessment process.

SCBAs
The 6 we have are no where near filling seating postions of main trucks either. I wondered if this guy did not mess this up by not applying properly the first time. Any ideas? I have 12 that need replaced badly.
We did the hydro test on tanks last year and lost 20 tanks besides. Bought a few tanks back but still in a hurting state.

Hard to say it was a messup since the grant was awarded. Including only 6 SCBA instead of enough to fix the deficiency wasn't the best idea in the world, but possibly including all of them with the gear would have gotten it shot down.
Seats on apparatus is only pumpers, aerials/quints, quick attacks, and rescues. Tankers, chief's cars, skid unit brush trucks, etc are generally not counted. If the total of what does count is less than 12 then 12 can be had per NFPA minimums. It's not really what you need to replace, it's what the other side sees as a need minus what you already have. If you're only good for 12 seats based on the above then you're 50% compliant. Even at 18 then you're 33% compliant with that 33% coming from a prior grant award. Nothing is impossible but it is an uphill climb to run this one.
