Default Need Some Info About USMC Specialty 7051

I have searched and read information about this specialty through out these forums but none really retained to my situation.

    So here it is.

I Swore in to the Marine Corps about 4 weeks ago. I will be leaving for Parris Island SC, on Aug 17th. I havent picked a MOS but my brother went through this MOS (7051, Aircraft Rescue and firefighting specialist) and he left and got a job in Markham County chicago, and just recieved his letter to work for the City of Chicago. I want to fallow his footsteps i always have, i have wanted to be a firefighter for a while but i also wanted to me a soldier, i want to go fight, i want to be used (thats y i joined the core) but anyways... to the point.

I talked to my recruiter and he gave me the speech on how the openings are quarterly and what not and that there was a slot open for me and they are waiting for my paperwork to get back from that department i guess.. Does anyone know what i should do while i wait to better my chances of getting this MOS. I scored incredibly high on my asvab to my suprise and im and fully qualified for this MOS. i just want to be able to get the slot. Any advice, or any one have past experiances with this?

The ARFF MOS sucks right now. They are restricted to airfield response stateside and small helo pads overseas. In fact, you have a better chance of standing guard duty overseas than firefighting. Everything else is contracted out. You will get very little firefighting training that will be applicable to getting a job after your enlistment. Your brother's getting hired by CFD probably had more to do with his veteran status than his MOS.

If you do a search for "7051" in the Federal/Military forum you will find many threads about the MOS.

I'm assuming you enlisted for the Airfield Operations Occupational Field, so there is a chance you can end up in one of 3 MOS'-7011 Expeditionary Airfield Tech, 7041 Airfield Operations Clerk, or 7051. A high ASVAB will usually get you 7051, but there is no guarantee. If you went open contract, renege now if they don't change you to Air Ops. You have that option until you ship out.

BTW, I'm a Career fire LT and a 7051 Master Gunnery Sgt in the Reserves, so I know what I'm talking about.

I was never in the USMC but I worked with some of there CFR in Fallujah last year. They were a great bunch of guys but were bored stiff. All they did was helo standbyes. Half of them were inactive reserve Marines who didn't want to be there either.

Master Guns knows way more than I do but if there is any info I can help you with just ask !

Call your recruiter fast! Tell him you want to change your MOS to 0311. You'll never regret it! Come on board!

    Good Luck...

Right now, the best thing you can do is getting yourself ready for getting through recruit boot camp! Get on the bus; sit down keep your mouth shut. When it stops, get off the bus as quick as you can get your feet on the painted boots marks on the deck, keep your mouth shut! DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING with you unless the recruiter says you can! It will be considered as contraband!!!

Hey it isn't "core" it is CORPS!!!

Yeah I know I was there for the turn over. Baharia just got bigger. The crash crew didn't get the mission for over there though.

I was there for all of 2008. I head back this week. Don't know where yet.

nah that's not the station anymore. they are over by the flight line. i have spent many of nights in that one though. they moved all the cans from the fallujah side over there and finally got them all set up from what i have heard from guys over there.
i am heading back for my 2nd year now. more than likely won't be there again. I actually loved baharia. was a great base when there was only 350 people on it. nice lake with a 4 mile run around it. now its way to busy.

That's a recent pic you have there. its after the disbursing bld was redone and the truck bay blew off.

    Top,
Are they letting the active duty guys work on the Rescue Birds? When I was at K-Bay most of the rescue swimmers on the Pedro -46's were 7051's and had the AC Wings. A few got their EMT-P's out of it too, however there was a Corpsman assigned to each crew as well.

0311 ?!?!?!?!? All Marines are 0311 remember Vinny? LOL.

I was a lowly 2621, and the CFR guys at Kaneohe were also bored out of their minds, and promotions were ridiculously slow - then again that was 14 years ago................Damn I am getting old.

    Hey Dennis,

When I was at New River we did have a couple CFR guys with wings, flew as AC on the C-12. Not sure if there were any flying pedros out of CP.

Have yet to meet an AD 7051 with a medic license, plenty of us in the Reserves though. They do usually get a few to EMT-B though.
