    Default 2009 Miami-Dade, FL., Fire Exam. Applications Accepted, March 1-15th

    Below you find information on the upcoming 2009 Miami-Dade Fire Exam.

    A professional firefighting career with MDFR includes highly specialized work in the protection of life and property through the provision of firefighting and emergency medical rescue services. Duties include, but are not limited to, combat firefighting, emergency medical rescue work, public education and fire prevention activities.

    Application process
    Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) will be accepting online applications for the position of firefighter, from March 1 - 15, 2009.

    The previously posted preference for Miami-Dade County residents is no longer applicable. Applications will not be processed on a first come first serve basis. No application will be processed prior to the application closing date.


    There will be no paper applications for this hiring process. All applications must be submitted online at the Online Application Site (please note that the site is best viewed with Internet Explorer). All previous eligibility lists have expired and everyone must re-apply to become eligible for the new hiring list.

    Upon successful submittal of your application you will receive an email notification . If you do not receive this email confirmation, check your application status on your Careers home page (you will need to login) and if necessary return to the application and press “Submit.”

    Annual Salary Range:
    Approximately $35,000 to $65,000 (subject to periodic change)

    Requirements for Employment:

    Must be 18 years of age at time of application.
    Must have a high school diploma or GED.
    Must not have been convicted of a felony nor of any misdemeanor directly related to the position of employment sought, nor have pled "nolo contendere" to any charge of a felony.
    Must submit fingerprints to be processed by the FDLE and the FBI.
    Must have a good moral character as determined by a thorough background investigation.
    Must be a non-user of tobacco or tobacco products for at least 1 year immediately preceding application, as evidenced by a sworn affidavit.
    Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Florida Driver's License and have maintained a good driving record.
    Must be able to work variable shifts, including shifts that require 24 hours of consecutive duty.
    Examinations:

    Audio/Written Screening Test (AWST)
    Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
    Medical Examination & Stress Test

    Not to sure on a lot. But I do plan on applying first thing tomorrow so I can get this going! I am planning on moving down to Florida very soon.

    Thanks for the info. Being from PA, I have no idea how hiring works in Florida other than what I can read on department's websites so if anyone has any additional info I would appreciate it. Also, on their website it says they use the AWST (Audio/Written Screening Test). I have never heard of nor taken this type of test before so if anyone has any info on what it's like or where to obtain a study guide I would much appreciate the advice.

    1. do you know how much they plan on hiring off this list

    2. is there much difference between a written and audio exam?
    what does the audio exam consist of?

    3. do you know the date(s) of the audio/written examination?
