I need some advice on a grant. We are applying for a truck, We have a 1993 Oldsmobile minivan that is our EMS vehicle. We currently don't have rescue tools. The city is buying us a new set of hydraulic rescue tools and we don't have any room to haul them in the van or on the engine. I'm not sure what I should ask for to replace the van.
Our current fleet includes a
1995 GMC Brush truck, AFG funded a new skid unit for this truck last year
2002 Ferrara Engine AFG funded
2005 Pumper/Tanker that AFG funded.
What should I ask for to replace the van? If anybody has any suggestions, I'd appreciate some advice!

Based on the fleet average of your dept, you will stand a slim chance of being funded for a new vehicle unless you are moving up to a transporting EMS service. Have you thought about a used ambulance to convert to a tool carrier and EMS first response vehicle? They can be bought for minimal $$ in reasonable condition. Many of them can be bought for under 10 K with plenty of life left in them. .

I thought the age of our equipment would be a problem, that's why I went ahead and threw that out there. I guess we've been fortunate in the past. Thanks for the reply, you confirmed what I was thinking. I will have to look into the used ambulance idea.

Many cube vans and "bread" trucks in good condition available from Air Force surplus. Diesel automatic, used for flightline maintenance and personnel transport (lightly used).
Some civilian model F350 ambulances from all branches of DOD.
See state forester.

If you could be patient on the tools--consider applying for the tools through AFG (much better odds of award) and then if awarded, it frees up the funds for the city to buy a service truck (or refit a DOD pick-up)
