Amazing what you can accomplish when everyone is on the same page. Where is the Rescue Squad Station located, in relation to your Station?....
Oh Yeah, since it's Thanksgiving, did you run any calls down in Pumpkintown today??......![]()

The Squad's current building is @ 1 1/2 west of us. When they move to their new home they will be @ 3 1/2 to 4 miles south of us on the other side of town. The county is making them close down their old station. So we agreed to let them keep up to two trucks in our building when we get our addition finished. The Squad in turn allowed us to go in with them on their new building and add two more bays (one big drive through bay) for our substation. This agreement will allow both depts. to have equipment on either side of town and hopefully cut down on response times, by not having to drive through the busiest intersection in the world (well that is during rush hour traffic
Every one in the county has to drive through this intersection in order to go anywhere! Can you say bottle neck from hell
) So things really work out for the best for each dept.
We only had one call today and it was an alarm call early this morning at a rest home, false alarm. So far so good, But it started to snow some at or around 1900 hrs. nothing much, and hope it stays that way. I don't think Savannah had a call all day, and Pumpkin Town Rd. in their district.

Bull, thanks for uploading some pictures of our new building!
Things are going rather smooth for the amount of down time (weather mainly) that we have had on the construction of our building.
As our county has grown, the department in the county have had to as well. We decided that bigger bays would be the only way to go as we will have plenty of room to 'grow into'. And as Bull stated, response times will be drastically faster as members can respond and roll apparatus more efficiently. Over all, this move will help everybody and we are all excited and anxious!

Lookin' better all the time.........

Couple of Questions.....
Standing in front of the Station, looking toward the Road: Do the Railroad Tracks curve to the left after passing the Station??
Is that a patch of !@#$%^& Kudzu on the Hill behind the Station??
(Leave it to me to come up with silly Questions.....
)

Thanks Harve,
To answer your questions, 1) Yes the railroad tracks do curve to the left and head east. Its the main/only rail line through the county. I runs through the Paper Mill (Jackson Paper) the last the mill jobs in the county. At one time we had 8 factors/mills in the county. But thanks to the Feds and NAFTA they have gone the way of the Doedoe Bird.
And Yes that is a very large patch of Kudzu behind the station.Stay Safe

Huh??............
I just spilled my Coffee........
Kudzu is an Invasive Vine with large leaves that spreads very fast during it's normal growing season. An Import from the Far East, Kudzu was brought to the Southeastern US to combat soil erosion on bare hillsides following Timber Harvesting by the "Clear Cut" method. Farmers have a huge problem with Kudzu in some areas, since it will start out across a tilled field very quickly. Kudzu will also Climb anything, and often kills trees by simply smothering the tree with it's vine structure. We've had a bit of it show up here, and a dose of Roundup Herbicide will quickly remove it. Some Farm related Organizations such as the National Farm Bureau are trying to get it added to the Federal Government's list of invasive species so the cost of eradicating it can be partially offset by Government Grants.....

And.................
Heck, I'm gonna get a few miles out of the "Big Bird in the Tropics" line.......

I forgot to add that the Danged stuff burns when it's dried out over the Winter. Then, when you're trying to run a hoseline thru it, your feet get tangled up in the vines...... Vines are as tough as Grapevines......
