For the most part, it has already melted. We only got, at or around 4"-6". The only snow left is what was pushed up on the side of the highways and what left on the north slopes.

now i'm not trying to doubt your measurment bull seeing as that you are a "local", but dammit boy yall had a hell of a snowstorm on the 18th... if i remember correctly we were in snow much deeper than that driving up from GA that friday i think on the order of 8" or so when we passed through sylva on our way to Cataloochee... which had about 16" when we finally pulled in to our cabin (normal 3 and 1/2 hrs trip took 8 hrs including 2 hrs to travel from sylva to waynesville-deplorable road conditions and idiots who don't know how to drive in winter conditions)

ive never seen so much snow in my life barring the superstorm of '93

at one point while we were waiting on cars in front of us to strap on their chains, i stopped and talked with some of your brothers to the east in haywood, they looked like they were about to fall over from exhaustion as im sure yall were

p.s. those are some pretty yellow trucks yall have in sylva... saw one or two running what im sure was one of many MVA's

It only really snowed hard on the top of Balsam and Cowee. We only got at or around 4"-6" in the bottom. At one point during the day the Hwy over both the Mtns were shut down (hwy 74 east and 441 south) due to jack knifed 18 wheelers and other wrecks. DOT and SHP called and wanted to know who shut the road down. We advised them that God had and that if they had a problem with that they would need to contact him.

lol yes it was quite the act of God up there that weekend.....

i remember passing one of the jack-knifed rigs just before US 23 comes into US 441 near Dillsboro

also sitting on US 441 for around an hour while they cleared the road, i believe it was near Balsam

Gotta hand it to the DOT though, they kept the roads about as clear as possible considering the rate at which the snow was falling and the fact it was HEAVY wet snow

I'm glad that you made it through our lovely piece of "Gods County" intact. Out of the 150 so wrecks over half of them seemed to be people that had nothing better to do than drive around and wreck. "We did not have to be anywhere we thought that we would just drive around and play in the snow."
    Happy New Year.

    That's great progress Bull!

So how's the lunch at Speedy's?
I can't believe they actually pay me to do this!!!

One friend noted yesterday that a fire officer only carries a flashlight, sometimes prompting grumbling from firefighters who have to lug tools and hoses.
"The old saying is you never know how heavy that flashlight can become," the friend said.

Yes sir it is. It also doubles, per building code, as an external fire escape. It going to be nice with couple of rocking chairs on it this summer.

Just wondering Bull, is the hose drying tower that structure up the hill behind your new hall? Rookies job to pack the hose to and from? Great physical fitness program you have going. Looks great BTW. Congratulations.

Thank you. And no that is not a hose drying tower up on the hill, though it could be. As far as cleaning and drying our hose, an officer in the mid 70's, purchased a hose washer and a hose dryer and we have never looked back. Oh and we let every one clean/wash hose. It goes faster and you don't have to worry about some rookie screwing it up.
