Equipment Lists & Best Dive Team??
My county is in the beginning phases of starting a county wide dive team. I was just looking for info on all the equipment required(other than the basics), is there a good site that has a good inventory of tools/equip. used? Also I was wondering what dive team(s) are considered as some of the elite in the US.
Information for a new dive team
I can provide you with a link for dive team equipment:
At the Dive Rescue International "equipment" site, you can download a catalog and RETAIL price list (NOTE: "Bid Prices" are available and are less than the "Retail Prices" quoted online).
Agencies that I would hold out as "role models" include:
Indianapolis Fire Department, IN, David Owens is Division Chief of Training & Special Operations. Indianapolis suffered two PSD fatalities and have since revamped their team to be one of the best in North America
Boone County Water Rescue, KY, Captain Dale Apel is the point of contact. This is primarily a volunteer team that is one of the most progressive in the county and incorporates technology (side scan SONARs, video and ROVs), surface supplied air, Superlite 17s & 27s, underwater comms, and other state of the art equipment resulting in safe and effective operations.
Broward County Sheriff's Office, FL, Steve Salach is the dive team leader and runs one of the most active teams in North America. Between February 2007 and Sept 2008, his team recovered 211 submerged vehicles.
Indian River County Fire Rescue, FL, Kevin Slade is the senior officer overseeing the agency's Marine Rescue Division.
Waukeegan Fire Department, IL, Steve Orusa is the department's training captain who has considerable knowledge in the field of dive rescue. His agency developed a SOG that has been peer reviewed by many in the PSD community and e makes it available to anyone who asks. It can be downloaded from the International Association of Dive Rescue Specialists site at: http://www.iadrs.org/index.php?pr=DOWNLOADS_AND_LINKS (the SOG download is at the bottom of the IADRS webpage)
Best of luck to you and your teammates!
