I am a full time Firefighter/Paramedic in the Chicago area. I'm considering moving to the LA area and have checked into it while I've been on vacation here. I'm going to the LAFD museum tomorrow and will be visiting the nearby firehouse as well. I've already visited the house on Mulholland Dr. and the guys were great and gave me a lot of basic information regarding the department.
So far I know that I'd have to test for my NREMT-P and that's no problem. Currently I have the following credentials:
EMT-P 5 years
FF 2 years
HazMat Ops 2 years
Tech Rescue Awareness 2 years
Fire Svc Vehicle Oper 1 year
In addition to that I will be going through Fire App Engineer training in a couple of months. I'm also a military veteran.
I was wondering if anyone can give me any advice on the process for someone that's already been in the fire service as well as any advice regarding the LAFD or surrounding departments.
