    Default Well

It's a tough market and posts like these don't always get results. I might suggest reading the local newspaper or some other more producting method (picking departments you're interested in and following their processes).

I would venture to guess that this method never gets results...

Joe, figure out where you'd like to work and go through their process. It's highly unlikely someone in authority will contact you and offer you your dream job based on a forum posting....

"I have a dream. It's not a big dream, it's just a little dream. My dream — and I hope you don't find this too crazy — is that I would like the people of this community to feel that if, God forbid, there were a fire, calling the fire department would actually be a wise thing to do. You can't have people, if their houses are burning down, saying, 'Whatever you do, don't call the fire department!' That would be bad."

Look into a job resource website like firerecruit.com etc. As stated, nobody is going to offer you a job from an internet forum and most probably have no clue of what you even have for certs. Pretty much everyone and their brother has the same type of cert and SC may not reciprocate "anywhere".

Check sconfire.com , and usajobs.gov. Apply to Charleston County depts. such as Awendaw, James Island, St. John's, as well as Mt. Pleasant, IOP, Charleston City, North Charleston, Goose Creek, Summerville. Spend the seven bucks or so to access the job postings on this site. Do the work, and you'll eventually have some luck.

Doing well, how about yourself? I've been out of the academy for close to two months now, and loving it. I'm getting a lot of engine time, with a shift on the medic every third day or so. The county exec. proposed an 89 member RIF, but I'm confident that the local 2068 will find alternatives. I also heard a rumor at the last lineup that we should be getting some stimulus $$$ from the State's allocation. That would help a lot. If the final budget decision on 4/27 mandates layoffs, I have several backup plans.

Rob, my heart's also in NYC(born and raised in Ridgewood,Queens), and I visit every couple of months or so, but it's next to do impossible to do well financially there. If you get on at one of the NOVA/MD depts, maybe you can take a leave of absence to take the job at FDNY, just in case something happens. Fairfax gives you up to one year to return, last I heard.

I hear you on that and I know all about it one of the main reasons I had to move South and im from Staten Island. I had to drop out of Fairfax running last year due to problem finding a specific document before the deadline. Right when the year was up so I could retest it looks as though they might night be hiring at all this year or be accepting fire/emt apps but im looking hard in NOVA/MD. If you know of anything drop me a pm or something im always open to any and all suggestions.

    Smile Summer Job at FD

    Dear colleagues,

my name is Jakub Morávek and I am a voluntary fifefighter in the city of Chrudim in the Czech Republic. I study Security and Strategic Studies at Masaryk University in Brno. I would like to spend the summer 2009 in the United States. I am looking for a job for June and August and it has always been my dream to work at a fire department in the U.S.

As regards my prerequisites I have an international driving licence for trucks and trailers including fire engines and engineering licence for handling of fire and civil trucks. A have also a training in breathing apparatus and first aid and certificates in these.

I am aware of the fact that it is difficult for you to put me on the position of a firefighter. So I am prepared to do any kind of work at your fire department (washing hoses, cleaning the station or preparing the equipment and the engines for alert operations).

Please inform me whether you would be able to employ me for a summer job at your department.

    With best regards,

    Jakub Morávek
