Our county has formed a new USAR team and have been lucky to receive State Homeland security funding for the equipment and a trailer. However, I've found that we quickly outgrew the trailer with all of the equipment. I've attempted to find some funding for a heavy rescue or a vehicle that would work with no success. An old beverage style truck or preferably truck and trailer combo. would work well. Does anyone out there have any ideas of how to get one of these vehicles or where to find if anyone would be willing to donate an older surplus heavy rescue or beverage truck to our team? We definately don't need something new. If anyone has gone through this with their own rescue team and has some suggestions, my ears are open. Our team definately needs the help. Thanks!

Hackney's main site has a used equipment section.

Don't know what you could get as a donation, but I would have to assume that it would involve a lot of work.

Check fentonfire.com, and there is a link to vehicle sales on 1rbn.com. Some manufacturers' sites have stock units as well.

If you're looking for something that's an actual beverage delivery truck, just get in contact with your local distributors (beer, Coke, Pepsi, etc.) and see what they do with their trucks when they replace them. From what I understand, Coke is moving to an all-hybrid fleet and is replace a LOT of trucks in the move to go green. You might even check with your local battery distributor, as a lot of them have similar vehicles.
Just be warned, these rigs aren't particularly designed to haul the things we do. My career department has an old beverage truck converted to a rescue that's a POS, partially due to the modifications and other things that it's been through during it's life with us.

Before you buy a tractor/trailer type, look into the driver training side of the equation. We had one and couldn't get enough guys qualified to drive it, and with the limited # of incidents it may not be worth the trouble. We went to a rescue style Hazmat rig, and 4 trailers:
1. Trench/Collapse
2. Confined Space/High Angle
3. Decon/Spill control
4. Mass Decon/WMD
