I am assisting a local department with writing this years AFG Assistance to Firefighters Grant, and I have a question maybe one of you Guru's can help us with. They want to put in for training to make there department 100% trained to the Firefighter 1 level, but they have several guys that work six days a week and are saying they cant afford to miss a couple days of work to take the classes needed to get to this level. Is there a way to apply for funding to reimburse these guys for lost wages, or is this under SAFER? If there is how should we go about it in our narrative, and training request's?

It is an eligible expense under the AFG. The PG states:
For the narrative show a total cost for the training, then break it down into the training program and compensation for lost wages. Clearly, explain the need to reimburse lost wages.Compensation to volunteer firefighters for wages lost because of attending training under this activity is an eligible expense if justified in the proposal.

Think the child care is under SAFER only as eligible to help as a recruit/retention plan to make someone available so they can run calls during the day.
