I'm not sure if I can use this forum to ask this question, but I figured that being that this is all volunteers, there might be someone here that has had the same problem as I have.
I recently (this weekend) attended an extrication training where a sales rep brought out some of his equipment - Res-Q-Jacks. I think that this system could be a useful for my department but not at $2,000. I know that these can be built a lot cheaper. When I discussed this with some officers of my department, they were unsure of whether it would create too much liability for the department.
My question is are there any laws that state whether or not you may fabricate a tool like this? I know they say you can "lift" a vehicle with these jacks, but I know my department would just use them strictly for stabilization. I appreciate any information or comments you guys might have for me. Thanks.
