Atlanta is going through a terrible time as far as staffing and rolling black outs. If I were you I would research the department a little better before asking about hiring, because if a department just laid off 100 guys then they will be the first 100 hired back.
I wouldnt be surprised if Atlanta laid guys off, so just double check.

As of today Atlanta is accepting applications again till July 31. As for laying people off I have not heard of anything, but yes they are doing brownouts. It may seem like a bad time, but with the new budget out somethings maybe changing.

Dude,
I have bitten my tongue long enough. YOU NEED TO STOP ASKING HOW MANY THEY ARE LOOKING TO HIRE!!!! If you REALLY want to be on that dept. WHO CARES test and do your best stop asking in every damn thread how man they are looking to hire. It does not matter if they are looking to hire 1 or 300 it is your job to do the best you can and earn that spot.

My intentions aren't to hijack this thread. But so what if he asks how many they plan on hiring. These forums are used to help people out. Plus he never stated that the amount being hired would detract him from testing. Its probably just a curiosity thing. Now, back to the Atlanta Fire Department thread.

I don't understand Atlanta. They lay off a bunch of guys, and then hire right after. We had a guy do a lateral transfer from here and go up there.
In my opinion, there are many departments in the metro Atlanta area that are more stable and run just as much at Atlanta.
And for all of you hopefulls, learn how to type and make complete sentences. Don't expect anyone here to take the time to help you if you can't take the time to type a professional post.

You might want to try HR. Ask if they have a proposed time line for the 2009 firefighter process. As for the number they are hiring, might want to phrase it a little differently than just 'how many are you hiring?' Instead ask: How many vacancies does the city plan on filling? Just some advice given to me by a division chief during a previous process.

Your names fits and should share it with a few others who asks all the same questions.
Most departments figure to hire several classes off of a list. How many depends on vacanies! If its a two year list figure maybe 3 to 4 20 week classes of maybe 15 to 30 or so recruits. Getting hired doesn't mean that you will graduate and go to a house. Only ones with good grades and no failing usuall are the graduates. I know departments who don't allow below 80 on exams and no failing of any exam.
Try this number to ask the questions. We spoon feed you youngsters too much already.
