NFPA standards on life jackets?
Are there any NFPA standards that cover life jackets/PFD's? Our department is looking at purchasing PFD's for use in onshore/nearshore rescue/personnel protection and to support dive teams. We are trying to purchase all equipment to NFPA specs. Also, same question as to throw bags?
Thanks in advance.

NFPA has a standard that covers throw bag rope. http://www.nrsweb.com/shop/product.a...821&deptid=961 is a nice set up.
NFPA has nothing to do with PFD's (nor should they) that is the coast guard. If you want a PFD figure out what it will be used for. Will you in the future be doing swift water, then save yourself some headaches and get pfd's made for that. If it isn't used all of the time their are several good swiftwater "universal" vests like http://www.nrsweb.com/shop/product.a...71&deptid=1045 http://www.nrsweb.com/shop/product.a...49&deptid=1045 or my personal favorite http://www.stearnssafety.com/dyn_pro...TRI650&k=79657
If your just doing shore work or boat work then http://www.stearnssafety.com/dyn_pro...TRI426&k=79657 will be just fine.
Hope that helps, any other questions just ask
