A few years ago when I was only in EMS and not the fire service, we were called to standby at a working structure fire. It was below freezing outside, and raining ice. I was sitting in my nice warm bus, reading a magazine and listening to the poor guys outside get covered in inches of ice (later on, it took assistance to remove their SCBA and gear).
The back door swings open, with a huge Arctic blast, and a firefighter hands me a singed, smelly, wet cat. It was incredibly lethargic and didn't look too healthy. I gave it a secondhand respiratory treatment and then blowby oxygen, and the little trooper perked right up.
As far as I know, the cat is still with us The stuff about cats having nine lives is no joke. A girl I dated once had a cat that chewed through power cords until it shocked itself - multiple times.
