    Cool Explorer or Junior Ranks?

I want to know what you guys think on ranks, should there be ranks? or should everyone be equal?
I think that we should have ranks not by seniority but by the work done at the station.

Does your FD have ranks for Juniors or Explorers?

Yes, on top of teaching the juniors the importance of subordination and chain-of-command, ranks are important in a post. Ours run as such:

Chief of the Post-the Post Advisor
Deputy Chief- highest position an explorer can hold
    (2) Captain- Assists the Deputy Chief with the administration of the post. One captain is the captain of training and the other is the Administrative training.
    (2) Lieutenant- One directly under each captain. LT's directly run their companies, with Captains/DC only stepping in if requested or the need arises.

yes you should have officers..we currently have...

1 Captian ( highest explorer position)
room for 1-2 Lts. ( second highest)
We only have a couple of rules about becoming an officer..must be off probation, must submit resume and have a interview with all advisors present and good leadership skills.

We have no ranks for our juniors, we rotate crew leader between them on a weekly basis but in the grand scheme of things it doesnít really pay to assign leadership to someone with a very limited knowledge base. While all of our juniors have completed essentials of firefighting and haz mat ops they still need guidance and an experienced firefighter oversees all of their activities.
    Totally Unacceptable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we are in the process of creating a captins position. we are going to give a test to the ones that are interested in the position and then an interview. we feel that by doing this process that we are not only getting to know the kidds more but we will help them with there skills that they may need when they try to go get a job in the fire service

My post uses Captains, Sergeants, and Corporals. Weird, I know. They're basically the equivalent of the real world deputy chief, battalion chiefs, and lieutenants.

    1. Chief
    2. Captain
    3. Lieutenant
    4. Then we have a treasurer/secretary that is in charge of paperwork and money.

right now my post has no rank system. we have a small post of 7 explorers. we currently do not respont to calls so i guess our advisors see no need for ranks.
if we were to start using ranks i think it would go Capt., and a 1st and 2nd Lt.
